Clean, tidy property, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. If not driving during your stay it's only about a 20 minute into Kendal, good bus links to various locations in the Lakes from there. Well-maintained gardens give a good view from any room - looked good enough in September, I'm guessing they'll look brilliant over summer. Owner provided excellent, extensive local information and recommendations via email prior to visit - probably the most in-depth info we've ever had for a booking on this site. Best to ignore previous reviewers who have mentioned issues with parking and heating/hot water system. Parking situation is made abundantly clear in booking confirmation and owners email, although perhaps not ideal for everyone you are given fair warning of this. As for heating/hot water system, both work absolutely fine if you follow the simple instructions provided. Few very minor quibbles: No initial supply of solid fuel for wood burner [probably would not have used it as central heating kept the place warm enough, however was advertised so some people would potentially have been disappointed] No tea towels, washing up sponges/dishcloths, dishwasher tablets or initial supply of toilet roll [although not specifically mentioned in description most cottages we've booked via this site include these kind of items] Again not something that affected us on our visit, but listing does mention patio furniture. There is a wooden bench, but this was not in very good condition when we stayed. I appreciate winter is not the time to be replacing this kind of item, but probably wants to be repaired or replaced before spring/summer season starts. In short, a fantastic little property that's just a few minor tweaks from being pretty much perfect. Would definitely recommend and would happily book again if staying in the area.

Our only problem was that the television had lost its reception signal. Mr Jasper came to check & it was repaired within 24 hours. Lovely apartment. No problems with Wi-Fi. Walking distance to Kendal which was useful as we could leave the car in the drive and avoid the one-way system in the town!

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are pleased you liked your stay and enjoyed visiting Kendal. Its a nice leisurely stroll into the town and there are lovely restaurants to eat at and shops and museums to visit. We hope to see you again.

Lovely property which is clean, with fresh bedding on comfortable beds and plenty of towels. We will be booking again for next year. Only thing to note is it's at the top of a steep driveway with space for 1 car at the top on a relatively flat area, any other cars could park on the drive.

Response on behalf of the Owner; So glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you to Woodlands again.

Sorry to say the cottage was not clean . The kitchen sink and bowl were really dirty , I think the cleaner used the washing up bowl to clean the floors then just threw the water down the sink leaving all the dirt in the sink and bowl . Needless to say we bought a new bowl for the dishes ...we also had to buy cleaning products to clean the rest of the cottage. The heating was on a timer .....came on about 7.30 off at around 11.00 then on again at about 4.00 and went off again at 11ish . We could not change these settings as control was in the locked garage ...the owner suggested since we were concerned about being cold we could turn heating up really high then when heating went off ,it then would take longer for cottage to cool down .........this didn't work ! Anyway we would have liked to chosen ourselves when we wanted heating on ...... The other problem was out side lights not working , it was March and evenings got dark early ,walking up those steps in the dark was not easy , so we used a torch . Another problem was the shower , the water did not drain away very quickly ...ended up standing in a few inches of water ....not very nice ! A few other small problems .....will not mension . But it would have been nice to have been told about the gardeners coming ....3 times in the mornings while we were there ,opened curtains and there they were ! one morning 2 vans parked on the drive . This cottage could be comfortable if it was given a bit of tlc, and above rectified ..

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are surprised by your comments. The average score awarded to Woodlands for cleanliness is 8.3 out of 10, which we've been told by is high. Many of our guests have remarked on how clean and tidy the property is. We mentioned at the start of your stay that the heating was controlled by a timer and turned on for 12 hours a day, while offering to activate it permanently if you preferred. You told us after two days that you were happy with the settings and that they didn't need changing, and we heard nothing more on the topic during your week at the house. With regard to the gardens, our guests tell us that they are one of the things they love most about Woodlands. With almost an acre to keep tidy, our gardeners visit once or twice a month during the spring and summer, devoting half a day to ensuring that everything is in top condition for all to enjoy. Their visits are necessarily dictated by the weather and the demands of the growing cycle. The outside lights are working. Our cleaner checks them on a weekly basis and our current guests have told us that everything is functioning properly. We're sorry that you didn't fully enjoy your stay but as owners we feel it's important that we address inaccuracies so that future guests are aware of the facts and what they can really expect from a stay at Woodlands.
