Description

A wealth of beams characterises this cottage, which is ideal for a couple wishing to tour Yorkshire’s pretty market towns.

Dating back to the 1800s and originally owned by a corn merchant, this fascinating holiday property became a hive of activity for over a hundred years as the workshop of the joiner and carpenter. Retaining beams and with the original winch still in place, it is has been fully renovated, and is hidden away in a quiet courtyard behind the market place in Kirkbymoorside. There is much to do and see in this popular area, with places to visit including Helmsley, a pretty market town with a ruined castle; Pickering, home to the North Yorks Moors Steam Railway, and trips to Whitby or York - both of which are steeped in history. Shops and pubs 50 yards.

Beamed, well-equipped kitchen/dining room with tiled floor. Utility. Shower room and toilet. First floor: Spacious beamed living room with electric woodburner, wooden floor and French doors to balcony. Absolutely marvellous place to stay with every possible convenience provided. We were greeted warmly and nothing was too much trouble to make sure our holiday was a successful one. We need to return to the area as one week was insufficient for us to explore. We appreciated the quality of the conversion of this historic building and the fact that the restoration had been sympathetic to its history, even retaining some of the original equipment. The location was ideal for visiting countryside, villages, heritage sites and the coast.

Fantastic.. The cottage was everything and more. Our every need was accommodated from simple things like the tea set ready on your arrival to the sumptuous bath on the upper floor. I cannot recommend this place highly enough 5* seems a disservice. Chris the caretaker gave us tips on where to visit and what pubs were good or not so good.

Generally OK, although we did experience a 'smell' in the bedroom. We were informed that it was caused by substances applied to the exposed beams in the bedroom.

We had the most wonderful stay. A beautiful modern conversion of a previously derelict workshop, right in the centre of the village. You could get more bedrooms in the space but have concentrated on providing spacious and luxurious accommodation for 2. Parking was easy, transport links great and local facilities restaurants and pubs were very enjoyable. Ample shops very convenient. We feel privileged to have had use of the cottage, thank you, and we hope to return.
