Charming 17th Century barn with a quirky layout and stunning views from the balcony. Quiet courtyard setting with hot tub and sauna.

This beautiful 17th-century barn situated on a mixed working farm, is set in the peaceful surroundings of the Rusland Valley and the entrance into the holiday property is through the original great barn doorway. The sitting room has valley views from the balcony and the layout on the second floor is quite unusual. Stairs lead up to a half landing, where they divide. One stairway takes you to two bedrooms; one a double, the other, below a truss, through a 3ft high small door leads into a twin - think Alice in Wonderland. With pitched roof and oak beams it is sure to please both adults and children. The other stairway leads to a further double bedroom. To the rear you have a courtyard with private entrance and grounds which offer ample space to relax and the hot tub and sauna will provide fun and relaxation for both adults and children. The valley itself has lanes ideal for cycling and easy strolls and, all a short walk from the house, you come to a track leading through woodland and on to High Dam, a pretty tarn, with a circular route and opportunity to laze on the banks, paddle and swim. At the head of the valley is Grizedale Forest with its many trails and the Go Ape aerial walkways through the tree tops. A few miles east lies Newby Bridge, and the southern basin of Windermere. To the north are all the fells and mountains, or go south and you will discover the coastline, with its villages and walks. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Went for a birthday weekend and the cottage was beautiful. Everything was clean and tidy. The views are amazing. Been next to a working farm you have to get use to the smells. However the poor cows had to get used to us been in hot tub making a noise.

Great location, we felt totally relaxed and away from it all. The accommodation is set out really well, we had 2 families staying together and had plenty of room. The only negative was we had to guess the oven temperature as numbers worn off. I would happily come back.

We went as a family for my husband 70th birthday and had a lovely time together. Unfortunately the same problems which we have read on previous reviews were present ,dishwasher did not clean very well ,so most things had to be rewashed by hand and you did not have a clue what temperature the oven was on. It seems a little problem but when cooking for 10 people quiet important. Why can't it been mended?

Lovely cottage. Plenty of room, hot tip was great, sauna was good, lounge ate was fine, dining area was fine. Minor issue was the kitchen knives were blunt, and there wasn’t enough small plates. Also, bring your own loo roll!

Beautiful cottage in gorgeous surroundings. The information booklet was very informative. Apart from a few cobwebs here and there the rest was spotless. The only negatives was the hot tub was very murky the 10am check out was to early and there was a very strong sickly smell which we could not find the source ( it may have been cleaning products used before we arrived but was still very strong when we left) All in all it's an amazing place to chill out or use as base to explore. We were a group of 10 aged between 53 to 17 and we all a great time and would definitely return.

Fabulous location. Dog friendly accommodation. The accommodation is clean and basic. The bedrooms comfortable and plenty of space around the kitchen table to enjoy evening meals as a group. The teenage girls loved the quirky room with 3 foot door and a stage!! However, for the price we paid we would have expected more. The adjacent property had an enclosed patio area with table, chairs and umbrella. For this property there were 2 functional picnic style benches by the hot tub and a garden area with a bench but no area to relax in the shade in comfort. This was very disappointing. There was no enclosed area to keep the dogs when outside so we had to be on watch the whole time, although our dogs don't leave us we didn't want them to stray into the local farm. The oven in the kitchen was clean but all the numbers on the knobs had been worn off such that we didn't know what temperature the oven was on, there were no instructions in the cottage information file to help us and we rang South Lakes number but unable to get through on a number of tries. I would recommend as a great base in the Lakes for exploring and walking which is dog friendly and spacious. It is expensive for what it is and if you are looking for somewhere with enclosed outdoor area where you can chill at the end of the day (other than in the hot tub!) then this is not for you.

Hot tub was little bit dirty. Sauna is not that hot and the music system is not working there. Due to being near to farm lots of flies gets into the house. It's good that it's near to Grizedale forest and there is direction given in the welcome book to go to High Dam by walking but no approx distance and time to reach there is mentioned so I think it might affect to the visitor who want to go to visit Dam during evening walk. Initially fire alarm annoyed a lot but after half and hour the neighbour came and took it off and fixed it the following day. In the advertisement pics of the Woodview in the website, there is an old television pic so that we didn't take HDMI CABLE and laptop but when we reach there there was LCD TV which has a HDMI port so if the pictures and info would be more updated then it would be helpful to have more great time during holiday. The other thing is leaving time is not suitable in my point of view, because it's no later than 10 am to handover the keys which I felt little bit rush in the morning and the time to take the key is no before than 3 pm so it will be late to go for a visit so, a whole day get spoiled. The house is in a quiet peaceful place which is good for having some relaxation time far from noise and crowd. Good and nice woods view from the house. Good parking space. Except these things it's nice and good.

enjoyed our stay at wood view just a couple of little problems the double bed downstairs which my husband and i used definitely needs a new mattress having a bad back i have not slept well at all. The kitchen light also needs changing very dark in there making it difficult for cooking. The knobs on the cooker also need changing as none of the numbers are visible so it was a little guess work as to to the temperature we were cooking at and being used to gas this was a challenge! I would say these are constructive criticism points and not complaints as we did not let them spoil our lovely week there.
