Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Discover Cambridgeshire from this superb holiday lodge. Cambridge itself is worth a visit, as is the cathedral city of Ely.

Nestled in beautiful, open Cambridgeshire countryside, Wood Fen Lodges have been thoughtfully converted and decorated to provide all the home comforts that discerning guests need for a relaxing getaway. In a quiet location with exposed beams, cosy wood burner and private use of a hot tub (by arrangement), there really is nothing more you could need for a perfect break. Some guests may choose not to venture far, instead deciding to relax in their private garden, or perhaps book themselves in for a spa treatment at the on site spa (at cost), where refreshments are also available.

Those wishing to explore the area will have chosen well with so much to see and do nearby. The university city of Cambridge offers numerous museums, including the famous Fitzwilliam, lots of walking tours, including university routes, punting, shopping and great places to eat. You should also make time for the open top bus tour, which gives an insight into the history of this fascinating city. And, why not take a trip to Norwich with its impressive Norman castle overlooking a fine city full of attractions and things to do? History buffs will also enjoy a visit to the Hanseatic Old Quarter of Kings Lynn, The Royal Sandringham Estate or the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, which offers up an impressive collection detailing the history of aviation, including several aircraft. In fact, this may well be your only chance now to say that you’ve been on Concorde!

For a change of pace and some refreshing sea air, you can be in Hunstanton in less than an hour. Here you will find a wide sandy beach that seems to go on forever, a small funfair, a Sealife Centre, Norfolk Lavender and lots of seaside shops and cafes. Closer to home lies the bustling city of Ely with its impressive cathedral, nicknamed ‘The ship of the Fens’ because of the way it rises up on the horizon. Here you will find a fascinating stained glass museum, which offers a rare insight to this beautiful art form.

Bustling Newmarket is close by and offers a famous racecourse which often hosts musical entertainment evenings. For breathtaking countryside, visit Thetford Forest with its numerous walks and cycle routes, and its Go Ape centre, featuring tree walks, zip wires and Tarzan swings. And, after all your adventures, you can head back to Wood Fen Lodges, unwind, relax (perhaps in the hot tub?) and dream of places yet to see. Just perfect! Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Reed Lodge. So many little details had been thought of and everything felt so luxurious. Little touches like having wood for the burner and welcome treats were greatly appreciated. The play area, chickens and hot tub made it a really special and memorable place. We had a minor issue with one of our bathrooms and the situation was rectified immediately and there was follow up to check all was well. The location was about 10mins out of Ely but within easy reach and so much to do in the area we couldn't fit it all in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Reed Lodge, we have many fond memories.

Great cottage although it looked bigger in the photographs. Was fairly well equipped but could have done with some more items of crockery etc, (and larger cereal bowls) as there was dishwasher there but it was easier to wash up in the sink due to the lack of extra plates. I did also have to ask for a sharp knife to use as ones supplied were all pretty much blunt, but this was easily solved and a replacement knife was provided. I do realise it was only for one week and we were on holiday, but we would expect things to be just like home or better. Everything was extremely clean and well presented and we were welcomed with some basic supplies to get us started i.e bread, butter, eggs, milk and a bottle of wine which was a nice touch. Main bedroom wardrobe door would not slide closed properly and as the dressing table was right next to the wardrobe, access to get clothing was restricted. The gardens were lovely as was the hot tub.

We needed somewhere to stay in a hurry, and this was the only available option, so we booked with a little trepidation; however, this was a fantastic place to stay. The furniture and the beds were comfortable (the beds especially so), and the place absolutely spotless. The cooking facilities were fine, though I'd have felt happier with an electric kettle rather than a gas one, but that's just me. The heating worked well (we had complete control over it, including temperature) and there was virtually no noise. There is a very minor back road about 10m away, but it was only the odd farm vehicle we heard. Apart from that it's well insulated. Another unit is behind the one we stayed in, and though two different groups stayed there in the time we were there we heard nothing at all. If we ever had to stay in north Cambridgeshire again, then we'd be delighted to be able to stay here again. Incidentally, we almost missed the garden, which is an experience in itself. It's huge and lawned, and there are chickens and when we were there grapes. You can have a barbeque here, but there is a lake so you have to be careful with children. There is also a hot tub, but we just used the showers in our apartment instead! Highly recommended.

Very comfy and well set out, with great bedrooms. We really enjoyed our stay and exploring the country side and towns in the area. On the one day when the weather was bad we had a relaxing day at the cottage and were a bit sad it was too warm to light the woodburner, a lovely place to stay, thankyou.

Beautiful lodge, very clean, comfortable, nicely furnished and well equipped with a thoughtful welcoming pack. Don't forget your swim suits as it is possible to use the hot tub.
