Really lovely spacious and well equipped cottage. Perfect for a country getaway. Rooms all good size and very bright and airy feel to the whole place, gorgeous views from every angle. Lots of good walks too. Kids didn't want to leave!

Despite colder than average April temperatures, the house was warm. The beds were comfortable. The cooking facilities were especially good. Other guests have commented on the rather odd layout of the middle floor. There is a lot of unusable space here, particularly in the room with the exercise machine, which is really little more than a wide corridor. We had a couple of minor issues that were dealt with very, very quickly (thank you) but we felt there was a bigger problem of overall cleanliness in the dining room and the stairways which we felt were in need of a "deep clean" which is why our score for cleanliness is lower than might be expected.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your constructive comments. We have since had a deep clean, and also changed our cleaner. We have also changed the middle floor space in to more of a relaxing quiet living area. We’re sure if you visit us again that you’d appreciate the changes and be more comfortable at the cottage.

Wood Cottage is a lovely property. It provided lots of room for seven people to stay in, was well-provided with furniture and other equipment e.g. pots and pans, and the decor was lovely so we really felt at home from the first. It was very clean and well-presented and is in a lovely part of the High Peak - we didn't wander far from the cottage during our stay! The jacuzzi in the bathroom was a real treat!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your positive comments. Very pleased to hear you enjoyed the cottage and the local area. We look forward to seeing you again.

A large property, with plenty of room for guests, but rather a waste of general living rooms, at least two of which had no real use. We were completely stumped by the boiler, which seemed to have a mind of its own. There appeared to be no instructions and it was only by chance we found the remote control. Door locks were very stiff and the bundle of keys extremely confusing and frustrating - especially when we arrived in the early hours and pitch darkness. The TV was another mystery, even with fairly full instructions and needed a call to the owner to clarify. Wireless signal was extremely fickle What ridiculous bedside tables in the main bedroom - glass tops with no apparent means of securing them. Potentially quite dangerous... The fire was slow to light, did not emit much heat and refused to stay burning, despite much encouragement and pleading

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry that you felt some of the facilities at Wood Cottage fell short of your expectations. There is a welcome pack that covers most instructions that are likely to be required and instruction books are kept in a kitchen drawer. The heating has remote access and we can operate it for you, but the remote is always kept near the television in the dining room. The wood burner needs all the vents opening initially and then gradually closing to control the fire and heat. However, it’s often easier just to give us a call and we can help straight away, as we did with the television issue.

The driveway is quite steep not clear on the photo. Cottage is situated on a main road. These were the only downfalls for us, however we believe the cottage to be an excellent place to stay if you are visiting places and enjoy walking. We went to visit the Manchester Christmas market, cottage within a 45 min drive and very suitable for this. We loved the comfortable living areas which allowed some to watch TV whilst others played games. A big thank you for the food awaiting us and the chocolates.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for the generally positive comments. The perspective of the driveway is hard to see from the photo, we tried to get a good image of the cottage, and we do hope this didn’t inconvenience you too much. The cottage is on the main road from the A6 towards the villages of Buxworth and Chinley which can get fairly busy at commuting times, but the traffic isn’t generally heavy, we hope this didn’t disturb you and the double glazing insulated the sound in the living areas. I’m pleased you enjoyed the convenience to the Manchester Christmas market and the cottage as a whole. You’re welcome regarding the food and chocolates! We hope to see you again soon.

Cottage very good with everything we needed.Down side was the cleaning, just felt it need a very good clean.Dishwasher was full of water, tea shirt left in downstairs loo, socks left in wardrobe and bottle of water, stairs needed a dust, round the cooker on the floor was very dirty.Outside when we arrived was a big dog poo!something the cleaners should of seen.I do think the owners should know the standard of cleaning that is done,as the cottage has been so well done.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We’re so sorry to hear that there were problems during your stay, but thank you for your feedback. We’d just had a very busy period, and turnarounds within the day and we had had four of these on the trot when you came to stay. I completely acknowledge that this should not be your issue, but at times we’re at the mercy of previous guests leaving the place in a reasonable condition. That said, we've now put a support mechanism in place for our cleaner should there be an issue. We've also added more cleans in quieter periods so the cottage can be kept up to scratch. We cannot change this stay for you, but we hope other guests can see this issue is not a recurring theme and we’re taking the feedback very seriously. We would ask that guests contact me with any concerns whilst they’re at Wood Cottage, so we can try and sort things out at the time.

The cottage was very clean and offered all the facilities we required. In addition, there was a large local map and walk suggestions which in our experience is often lacking at many cottages together with various board games to keep children and adults entertained.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Very pleased to hear that the cottage offered you everything you needed. We're also pleased to hear you found the place clean and it met your expectations. Glad to hear the kids were entertained throughout your stay too!

Wood Cottage is Fab, so much room and got everything you could possibly need. Short cycle to local pub with friendly staff and locals. Lovely walk along canal to Whaley Bridge, where we got train to Manchester. Cottage was lovely and warm and very comfortable. We totally agree a extra shower would be really good. Lovely little secure garden and we made the most of sunny Oct and sat and relaxed. There was four adults and still plenty of room in house for more, a great family holiday house Thank You so much x

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Great to hear you had such a good time at Wood Cottage. It’s lovely to have feedback about the place and the surrounding area. We can advise what’s there and how easy it is to access local amenities, even though the cottage is fairly remote, but an eye witness is wonderful!
