Northumbrian Cottages

The Northumberland Regional Specialist - Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Northumberland better!

Description

A former shepherd’s cottage, renovated to a good standard with lots of character, makes an ideal touring base.

Oak Cottage is full of character with its beamed living room and four poster bed. Relax amid spectacular and dramatic scenery in this gloriously unspoilt part of Northumberland. Lying within the Northumberland National Park and enjoying panoramic views over Whitelee Fell National Nature Reserve, the cottages are former shepherd’s cottages on the owner’s sheep farm, renovated to a very good standard and retaining lots of character. Oak Cottage and Birch Cottage have beamed living room ceilings and all three have inglenook fireplaces with multi-fuel stoves for a warm and cosy atmosphere as well as power showers in the bathroom. There are wildlife cameras which feed live pictures direct to the flatscreen TV in each cottage, so you can watch barn owls, badgers and other wildlife. The area is rich in wildlife and ideal for walkers. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders. Newcastle and Edinburgh are within an easy drive. Shopping in Otterburn and Jedburgh, both 15 minutes away.
Oak Cottage can be booked together with Birch Cottage (15841) and Rowan Cottage (80119) to accommodate up to 13 people.

Really lovely place with excellent hosts and some really nice touches such as the wildlife cameras and stove. Amazing countryside around. Fairly remote, but exactly what we were looking for!

We visited Oak Cottage during one of the coldest weeks of the winter. The central heating was programmed to be on all day and there was a bunker full of coal, all included, which ensured the house was warm. Access was up a hard surface track which the owner cleared of snow and gritted and the A68 was always clear but many of the minor roads were untreated and icy. We had three very clear skies with fantastic views from the front drive of all the stars and days walking and driving in the area

On our arrival we were warmly welcomed by John and Jill who showed us around and told us how everything worked which was very helpful. The cottage was quiet and peaceful in a beautiful location but a little remote but we didn't mind that. The web cameras around the farm were a real treat so lovely to see badgers and foxes feeding close up on the tv. We enjoyed our week at Oak Cottage and hope to return in the future.
