With a view over a secluded valley, this cottage is just 8 miles from Woolacombe’s long sandy beach.

Overlooking a secluded valley, just 8 miles from Woolacombe’s long sandy beach, these three superb holiday properties each enjoy their own enclosed garden area, and are peacefully set down a mile long made-up private road. Close to the owner’s home, they have been imaginatively and beautifully converted from former farm buildings, incorporating glass frontages to take advantage of the lovely views over the stream-bordered paddocks which lead to beautiful woodland walks. Children love getting to know the bunch of friendly animals, which include miniature ponies and donkeys, llamas, pet sheep and small flock of traditional breed hens.
Perfect for a relaxing holiday, the area holds a wealth of attractions. The ancient town of Barnstaple, with its Domesday associations, lies just 5 miles distant. Here the visitor can find a good selection of shops, restaurants, museums, a theatre and various sporting facilities, not to mention a 14th-century parish church, a fascinating Heritage Centre and a daily Pannier Market. For watersports enthusiasts, the beautiful beaches at Woolacombe, Croyde Bay and Saunton Sands are a must, affording some of the finest windsurfing in Devon, as well as being a haven for sunbathers and sandcastle builders. Wonderful walking and riding can be enjoyed in the nearby Exmoor National Park (6 miles), where red deer roam the rugged moors and magnificent sea views can be admired from lofty cliffs and headlands.
Among the many places to visit within a 5 mile radius are Arlington Court (NT), with its collection of model ships and Victorian accessories, and Marwood Hill Gardens, complete with its string of lakes, rare shrubs and exotic trees. The resorts of Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, Lynton and Lynmouth are also easily accessible, each offering its own blend of seaside charm. Golf and sailing, 8 miles. Shops 5 miles, pub 3 miles.

A lovely clean spacious place with all necessary facilities in good working order. Plentiful books/games for entertainment. Nice touches with fresh flowers and cream teas, owners couldn't be more helpful. We had a lovely time. Our only disappointment was its location,(which would suit visitors who wanted peace and quiet), but as we were attending a family function in Croyde and Pickwell it was a little remote with its one mile long drive as we needed to do a lot of travelling to and fro. Thank you for a great week

We had a fantastic week at The Wheelhouse - I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area. The house itself is beautiful - clean, nicely decorated, well furnished and everything you need in terms of kitchen equipment, bedding, cleaning bits and bobs. We had the best welcome when we arrived, a HUGE bowl of clotted cream, jam, freshly baked scones (thanks Ken!), eggs from the hens and a bottle of red plus a warm welcome from our host Suzanne. The children loved helping to feed the animals and put them to bed each evening, again Suzanne was great as were the animals (I fell in love with the Donkeys, Norman & Tommy!) Only one tiny minor point - no mobile signal at all (although obviously nobody's fault, and it was quite refreshing!) I would recommend the Wheelhouse in a heartbeat :)
