Description

Whether your interest is walking, mountain biking or if you just enjoy discovering picturesque villages or stately homes, there’s something for everyone here.

In the glorious landscape of the Lake District National Park, and ideally located for enjoying water sports or fell walking and climbing, these two spacious and comfortable properties have been created from the conversion of an 18th century barn. Allt Maen, its name derived from the Celtic ‘Old Man of Coniston’, a mountain visible from the properties, is on the first floor and Wetherlam occupies the ground floor. Coniston Water is just 2 miles, Windermere 8 miles, Blawith Fells are a short drive and Grizedale Forest tracks invite mountain bikers, whilst nearby stately homes and gardens offer more sedate pleasures. Shops are 3 miles away and a friendly pub (dogs welcome) is a short stroll.

All on ground floor: Living room. Dining room/kitchen with slate floor. 1 double (four poster) bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Rayburn in dining room included.

Both properties: NSH, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot. High chair. Digital TV. DVD. Stereo/CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Wi-fi. Shared courtyard garden and furniture. Barbecue. Parking.

Matched description, everything in place. views from the window. All on one level suited us just right. Cosy, homely and roomy at the same time. the stars at night spectacular without streetlights. Would have liked a secure area for dog. Other points to note: when it rains the roads around are turned into streams & the main road floods. The pub next door, which was promoted by the property, shut its kitchen our week, so ate in more than planned. the footpath round the corner is closed until the bridge is replaced some time. There was no mobile reception. The phone box next door doesn't take money & its call-using-card service didn't work when I had a flat tyre.

The cottage was very clean and came well equipped. There was a reyburn in the kitchen which is kept on so the cottage always felt warm. Situated in a very good location close to Coniston and not too far from all the attractions of the south lakes. Nice scenic drive to Grasmere took about 35 mins. There is a very welcoming pub virtually next door which serves good food at a very reasonable price. We liked everything about this cottage and can,t wait to return sometime.

Nice cottage, ideal for two people right on the edge of the Lakes about 10 mins drive from Coniston.
