Please: This bit is NOT for publication. I just want to let off steam!! I have been to this cottage, in the grounds of the owners' Farm Shop and egg delivery business about 4 times now, and, indeed, despite a few mini-moans, would hope to go again - they are a delightful family. However, this time I was a bit disgruntled because: a) the TV wasn't working properly, and they were aware of that - so no Strictly come Dancing, Doc Martin and not even Coronation Street! Ouch!!! b) The best light of the lot in the room, the standard lamp in the sitting room, wasn't working. I bought a new £8 screw in bulb for it in Tesco, and that didn't work! - and it was obvious that other guests had also tried in vain, as I later discovered about 6 of these expensive bulbs in a cupboard! c) the lounge bulbs were only 40 watts, so it was very difficult to see to read or do anything else. d) There is no WiFi in the Lodge or the shop, only in the owners' house. All of this meant that as I was there on my own with my 2 dogs, there was nothing much for me to do on cold, dark November evenings! I was SO glad I took my own radio, as again, there wasn't one there that worked, nor a CD player, cassette player.....nothing. e) On top of this, the grass in the enclosed garden was about 6 inches high for the first few days, which made it difficult for me to see and then clear up any dog mess! When I mentioned this to the owner she did get her young son to cut the grass on Day 3 after he came back from school; fine, except it meant I felt obliged to "tip" him for doing it! Now this last one really is a naughty winge on my part! Despite the fact that there is a flourishing farm shop right next door, there is never any "welcome gift"! - OK, there is no rule that says there has to be, but I regularly use holiday cottages and I am used to being greeted by little gifts such as cakes, eggs, flowers, or wine and offers to get in milk or bread for me on arrival. Here.....Zilch!!! There! I feel better now!!! Sorry to moan!! I almost certainly WILL go again, (if they'll have me!) but just this once I felt a bit hard-done-by and just wish someone would "tip them the wink" about welcome gifts! There isn't even a Visitors' Book, so nothing to record anything wrong. However, on the plus side - it is always lovely and warm, and Brean Sands is a delight for me and the dogs - so they do get 10/10 for that!

The lodge is well equipped although could do with some updating. This year was the second year we had stayed there. The enclosed garden is great for our dog. The owners are friendly and welcoming. Their farm shop has a good selection of fresh, delicious, local vegetables, salad, fruit, meat and cheese. The eggs they sell are a must, they are absolutely lovely! We would definitely stay again.

If you like staying in the car park of a busy garden center and chicken farm, than this is the place for you. We hated not being able to eat our meals out in the small garden, because of the constant lack of privacy and noise from cars/customers and lorry's, we had such poor sleep that we cut our holiday short and went home, my husband had to clean the windows, i had to ask to get the grass cut, the internet only works in certain rooms, the TV worked when it felt like it, and the cooker well don't get me started on that old thing, it was guess which ring you were putting on as you had no idea, and it took a month of Sunday's to heat up. The pictures on the web site makes you think you are getting a chalet near the beach, its not near the beach its a 20 minute walk across a golf course. The beach was great we had it practically to our selves, but you wont get to go in the sea as its to far out. The master bedroom's bed was like sleeping on a bit of wood, the headboard banged on the wall every time i moved, the worst thing was the moldy smell, coming from the carpets behind the furniture, no one ever cleans this part of the room, and you have to move the furniture to get to the plugs so you see the dust and cobwebs, but make sure you don't put your cloth's in the chest of draws as this was full of dust, i had to take my inhalers a lot in the evenings because of the smell in my bedroom. My poor husband kept getting woke up at 4.30 in the mornings by the cars doors slammed shut right under his window, so he ended sleeping in the living room, needless to say we were very tired and just wanted to get in our own beds, the holiday for us was spoiled.

Very enjoyable stay, the only thing to have made it better for us would be WiFi being available
