Description

Set around a farmyard, this property is ideal for a family wishing to explore the Abergavenny area.

Indoor heated swimming pool/hot tub
BHS Approved Riding Centre

The ancient farmhouse at Werngochlyn dates back to the 12th century. It nestles in open farmland underneath the Skirrid Mountain and the four comfortable holiday cottages are sympathetically converted from stone farm buildings set around the farmyard. The setting is perfect for children of all ages (adults too!). There is plenty of room to run around and explore – and plenty of animals to befriend…. a pair of Kune-kune miniature pigs, a very large Gloucester Old Spot, a donkey, goats, sheep, chickens (you can collect your own eggs for breakfast if you want to), ducks, dogs, cats and loads of horses and ponies – including a tiny rescue pony named Tinkerbell.
You could stay around the farm all day – with a heated, indoor swimming pool, hot tub, games room and riding school on site with tuition for all ages from 4 years plus and then a BBQ in the evening. There are footpaths running directly from the farm and dogs are welcome. You are ideally place to explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Usk and Wye Valleys and the fantastic countryside that surrounds the nearest market town of Abergavenny which is only 3 miles away – home of the Food Festival. It boasts good shops and a market, a cinema, theatre, castle and museum as well as good choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants including Michelin starred ‘Walnut Tree’ which is within walking distance of the farm. An 18-hole golf course and driving range is only ½ mile away. An enjoyable stay that will have you wanting to return. Shop 3 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin with additional single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Cot. High chair. Electric cooker. Shared laundry room. Dishwasher. Wi-fi. Sitting-out area and picnic bench. Barbecue. Private parking for 2 cars. Shared indoor heated swimming pool, open 14th March-2nd November. Shared games room. Two pets welcome, under strict control please (livestock). WTB 3 Dragons. NB: Unfenced shallow stream in grounds. No smoking.

Very peaceful but a tractor track road to the cottage cost me 3 new tyres due to multiple punctures. A shame as the location is stunning and peaceful but it is a farm.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- So pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us - but we were so sorry that you had such a problem with the drive...... we deliberately keep it as it is to try and prevent people speeding down! (If it was tarmacked, we might have to put in speed bumps; it is user-friendly for horses, and makes it easier to negotiate in icy conditions. We also hope that it gives a rural feel to what lies ahead. You were obviously extremely unlucky to have suffered punctures - no-one else ever has - including us and all the other regular visitors and tradesmen who come here on a daily basis! If you would care to forward me a copy of the receipts, perhaps we can help towards the cost.

Only enough hot water for one person Heat was not turned on till I asked owner The place needed a good clean ie. flies and dirt all over window sills

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner :- We are really sorry that you have made this complaint. Cleanliness is really important and had you felt that it was not up to standard, we would have immediately put it right! We have very thorough cleaners but things can get missed. You will notice that in our booklet, on the very first page we ask you to come and see us if things are not to your liking or have been overlooked. We assume that you are happy if it is not mentioned. We do have heaters in the cottages that can give instant heat if you are cold, but we are very happy to put on the central heating if you wish it. To be honest, they are very warm cottages and we do not usually have to use heating in late June. The other guests were quite happy without but everyone is different of course.

A bit disappointed that no towels were available. Bathroom could do with a window/extraction. Other then that it was great.

Awful. The standard of cleanliness was appalling- we bought bathroom cleaner & cleaned it ourselves. The pool and tub were grim, so dirty & even things crawling along the bottom of the pool! Barn was filthy, I expect old furniture but it was so dirty! I would definitely not recommend it to anyone

We had a great trip. Our little boy loved his riding lessons. Every morning he collected eggs for our breakfast and fed the pigs. Easy access to many fun things to do. The Brecon mountain railway, Blaen-Y-Glynn and Cantref Aventure Farm to name but 3.
