English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Long Wood boasts a peaceful location which is ideal for families and there is even a children’s play area nearby.

Set in a secluded position high in the Mendips above Cheddar Gorge and just 3 miles from Cheddar, these attractive barn conversions make an excellent base for walkers and nature lovers. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is rich in bird and wildlife, including badgers and deer (which visit the farm). Animals on the farm include calves, pygmy goats, alpacas and guinea pigs. Nature trails criss-cross the surrounding hills, easily accessible from the farm, and the whole area is one of immense historical and geological interest.
Among the many places of interest to visit are Wells cathedral in England’s smallest city, Glastonbury Tor, the caves at Cheddar and Wookey, Longleat and several NT properties including Montacute House and Stourhead and King John’s Hunting Lodge in pretty Axbridge. Excellent beaches and seaside entertainment can be enjoyed at Weston Super Mare and Brean, and there are many charming villages to be explored, along with the rugged landscape of Exmoor National Park, famous for the native ponies. The Georgian Heritage city of Bath is easily reached with its beautiful architecture, Roman Baths, Abbey and fine selection of shops and restaurants. Several golf clubs are available locally together with horse riding, coarse fishing and trout fishing at Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes. Very good local inns and places to eat. Please note: Ramscliff Cottage (ref EGA) and Long Wood (ref EPH) can be booked together to accommodate up to 7 guests.

There was only one downfall here and that was the heating system. It wasn't working when we arrived so the cottage was cold. My husband and the owner managed to get it going but it went off again and wouldn't work. The next day the owner tried again unsuccessfully but said he would call a plumber who never arrived. They did provide us with a couple of heaters but when they were on together the electricity kept tripping out.

The cottage was wonderful - clean, spacious, brilliantly well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location was lovely and the owners were welcoming. Our children are teenagers so not really fussed about helping out on a farm but if they had been younger then they would have been able to help with the animals, play on the playground and generally have a great time. The cottage is at the top of Cheddar Gorge. It was really good for days out in Cheddar, Wookey Holes, Wells and that area though it took longer to get to Bath and Bristol than we had first thought - how well the location suits you depends on your priorities. We did a day out in Bath which was great and spend other days around the gorge. If we had wanted to be mainly in Bath and Bristol then we could probably have found somewhere else that was easier.

An excellent cottage in a beautiful setting & particularly dog friendly with substantial on site exercise options. A distinguishing feature of this property was that EVERYTHING was provided on arrival for our convenience from loo rolls & soap in all wash areas to poo bags, dog treats etc plus some wine & chocs for the adults. Very welcoming & very friendly hosts. The presence of alpacas was also very special.

Located on a farm very close to Cheddar Gorge. The owners are warm and friendly and the cottage was worth every penny. Somerset is a wonderful county with so much to see and well worth a visit.

A nice cottage in a lovely location. It's a great location for anyone who loves the countryside. It's easy to walk to to various nature reserves or round Cheddar Gorge from the cottage. The cottage has books of walks and a waterproof OS explorer map.

We had a lovely week in quiet but accessible surroundings. Everything was there to ensure a good holiday. The only drawback was the lack of phone signal and wifi so making plans with friends was difficult. I had not been to the area before and enjoyed visiting local towns and attractions with the added bonus of Shakespeare in the Abbey grounds in Wells one warm evening. The brochures and information left by the owners was extremely helpful.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We did indeed have an issue with getting Wi-Fi at the Cottages and this has now been rectified. We can make no promises due to our location but most people do get limited access. Mobile signal depends entirely on your provider.

The Owners of Wellington Farm were very friendly and helpful. The Farm was stunning and to see the Alpaca's constantly was an added bonus. There were also other lovely animals there. The parking facility was brilliant and everything was clean both inside the property and outside.
