The cottage gives the impression of being on its own but there is actually another next to it.The cottage is clean with fairly comfortable furniture in the lounge and very comfortable beds. It states there is a large garden but as it is uncultivated I would not say it is a garden just a rough space which you cannot sit out on although there is a small raised deck which is in need of attention. The washer/dryer does not dry and there is no line outside. There is no dishwasher which in my opinion is a must these days. On our arrival there were Sheep on the premises which were there all the week making it virtually impossible to let our dogs out. Also on our arrival a note had been left to say there was no TV but we were told it was being rectified early in the week. Needless to say it wasn't and we were left the whole holiday without any TV or Radio. Would we recommend this cottage. The answer is NO

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We are extremely sorry that you came away from your stay at Waterfall Cottage with some negative thoughts, as we really do want all of our guests to enjoy the cottage as much as we do. You are correct in saying that there is another cottage next to it, this was originally the crofters cow byre and was tastefully renovated to living accommodation a few years ago. However, as you will have noted, it has no windows or openings on the cottage side at all and is not let for holiday use so is very often unoccupied. As per the opening description and illustrative pictures, the cottage sits in a rural setting with views across open fields and we do not feel that this is hampered in any way by the Old Byre. In keeping with the cottages rural location, we love the natural state of the garden and will perhaps suggest to cottages.com that the description is re-phrased to make this clear - the meadow, little river and den (which our children built) are very much used by us when we are there and we feel that any landscaping would destroy the unique experience of a highland croft garden. However, we would hate to think that this disappointed guests who are looking for something more suburban. We had the decking built so that guests could enjoy the outside serenity without stepping foot onto wet grass and can confirm that this will be re-stained / treated at the end of the season, as is the case each year. I am sorry that you didn't find the dishwasher, this is next to the washing machine in the kitchen and our housekeeper would have been happy to show it to you if requested. Unfortunately it is not possible to have a washer / dryer because of the cottages construction (hence we only advertise a washing machine) and an outside line is not viable either (due to high winds experienced in the winter). So we have an indoor clothes horse, which you will have found in the downstairs cupboard, and is very effective. The property is fully fenced with (stock proof) post and rail, although there is a little wooden gate at the bottom of the garden and the sheep will quickly appear if this is left open. However, if this is closed they disappear just as quickly and due to their timid nature evicting them is very simple..... We would like to apologise for the lack of TV during your stay, the high winds had brought down the TV aerial and being in a very rural location makes arranging contractor visits quite difficult. We chased the only local company willing to travel to the cottage on several occasions during the week you were there and are happy to say that they have now fixed the problem. We hope that you got to enjoy some of the many DVD and box sets in the living room during the evenings. We do have a good quality DAB radio / CD player, which is situated on top of the fridge - again our housekeeper would have been happy to show this to you if asked. We really are very sorry that you did not enjoy the cottage as much as we do and thank you for your comments. We will endeavour to make improvements where possible and amend the property description where necessary, so that future guests get exactly the experience they are seeking.
