Explore Yorkshire’s moors, dales, coast and historic heart of York with ease from this farmland barn conversion.

Tucked away on the owners’ working livestock farm, these two holiday properties (ref 29352 and 29353) form two of five sympathetic conversions of old stone barns. The farm is home to a herd of cattle, alpacas, pigs and chickens (fresh eggs available). Tastefully furnished, they successfully combine the old with the new to create an ambient atmosphere for simply relaxing, touring or walking direct from the door. The local village is a few minutes’ stroll, whilst the bustling market town of Thirsk is just 4 miles and offers a wide range of restaurants, shops, cafes and pubs, together with the James Herriot Museum and Thirsk Racecouse. Sutton Bank is renowned for its exceptional long distance panoramic views from where you may wish to watch gliders take full advantage of the strong thermals. There is easy access to the Dales, the rugged scenery of the North York Moors and the seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough. Alternatively, the quaint picturesque town of Helmsley is a short drive and the historic city of York makes for a full day out. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

All on ground floor: Living room with double sofa bed (for alternative sleeping)/dining room/kitchen. 1 double (5ft) bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

DVD. Book library.

Both properties: Biomass central heating, electricity (solar panels), bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. High chair. Electric cooker. Microwave. Shared washing machine and tumble dryer in external utility room. Freezer. Wi-fi. Shared gravelled courtyard with furniture. Parking (2 cars). NB: Drop to unfenced stream in grounds.

The owners Ed and Victoria made us welcome from the moment we arrived. Beautiful cottage in a beautiful village. They were always on hand to recommend where to go and how to get there. Everything was just perfect. Will defiantly be looking to book for next year.

Spacious well equipped and lovely décor. Downside lack of mobile signal but Wi Fi provided. Only criticism arrangements for cleaning and changing of bed linen needs to be better organised for stays longer than a week.

An excellent farm conversion. Quiet location, comfortable and spotlessly clean.

We stayed in Kitchen Box which was a lovely equipped barn conversion providing ample space for the two of us. There was a very friendly cat and dog on the farm and it was unusual to be able to see such a variety of animals such as Alpacas, horses, sheep, pigs & chickens and get up close to them. We actually witnessed one of the pigs giving birth to 8 piglets. The farm owners were helpful and friendly and did not mind you getting close to the animals. We found it a good location for walking either for getting to the coast or walking from the farm, we actually made our own circular walk from the cottage to see the White horse and Sutton Bank with some great pub stops on the way.

These were delightful cottages set on a working farm. The cottages were ideal for their comfort and convenience and as a base to explore the Moors and Dales of Yorkshire. It was only a short drive to Thirsk the major town in the area. The owners were friendly and helpful. A great stay.
