This contemporary and spacious, holiday cottage is ideal for family groups and friends all year round.

"Fine cottages and facilities – just a mile from one of England’s finest Regency towns . . ."

Occupying a superb position with wonderful rural views, yet within a mile or so of Cheltenham’s elegant town centre, these delightful holiday cottages have been created from a range of 19th-century barns and are furnished and equipped to high standards. All cottages enjoy a good choice of shared facilities including a covered heated swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court and a croquet lawn. The cottages are well equipped, with an automatic washing machine, microwave oven and dishwasher, and each cottage has its own sitting out area with patio and furniture.
All the fascinating corners of the beautiful Regency spa town of Cheltenham are immediately to hand: there is an art gallery, a museum, tempting boutiques, antique shops, plentiful restaurants and inns. Only a short walk away is Cheltenham’s racecourse, famous as the home of National Hunt Racing, which stages the Cheltenham Festival in March, as well as several other top quality race meetings between October and the end of April. The Pittville Pump Room, a magnificent Grade I listed building opened in 1830, has a museum on its top floor. In the ballroom it is possible to taste spa water from the original pump. Historic illustrations, photographs and small displays tell the story of Cheltenham from its beginnings in Anglo-Saxon times. The building is surrounded by attractive parkland with a lake and children’s playground, public tennis courts and golf course. Number 4 Clarence Road, built in 1832 by James Creed, is the house in which Gustav Holst was born on 21 September 1874, and where he spent the first seven years of his childhood. The Holst Birthplace Museum is a memorial to the composer and a rare treat for lovers of music. On the summit of nearby Leckhampton Hill above the Devil’s Chimney, a teetering rock column, is the site of an Iron Age fort; keen walkers can follow the Cotswold Way.
Hunting Butts Cottages provide a perfect base to explore the beautiful countryside and villages of the Cotswolds as well as the attractions of the Heart of England. The Cotswolds cast their spell on artists, naturalists, walkers and everyone with a love for rural peace and tranquillity: Broadway – the ‘Venice’ of the Cotswolds; delightful Chipping Campden; Blockley, described as the most beautiful village in England, and Stow-on-the-Wold boasting England’s oldest pub, are all within half an hour’s drive. The variety of attractions is almost endless. Exploring this region at any time of year is a rewarding experience, each season throwing a different light on the changing scene. Heritage attractions in the area include Sudeley Castle (7 miles), once home of Catherine Parr, containing Europe’s largest collection of toys, arms and armour. Forest of Dean 23 miles. Birmingham, Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon are all within one hour by car. Sailing and wind-surfing on 15,000 acres of lakes near the ancient Roman town of Cirencester are available within 30 minutes’ drive. Shops ½ mile.

We were highly satisfied with the cottage. In our opinion it could do with a little TLC. The kitchen was a little cramped. However we would return to the cottage if we go back to the area. The welcome was warm and friendly . Many thanks from 10satisfied customers.

Lovely house, very comfortable stay. Enjoyed the swimming pool too. Only negative is the kitchen is slightly small for the number of people that can stay here.

We had a lovely weeks holiday at Walnut tree house. Lots of room for 7 adults, 4 children and a baby. It was lovely to have a big enough table to eat together and a cosy lounge to all chill out and watch TV in the evening. Although the oven was small we managed to cook a full Sunday roast for everyone, there is plenty of equipment in the kitchen/ sideboards for cooking and eating. The welcome pack and flowers were lovely. The children made lots of use of the pool and games room.

A lovely house, great location and we had fun in the pool and on the tennis court. Rooms were very nice and there was everything we needed. The kitchen was small for the number of people who were staying. We had caterers in tho so only a problem at breakfast time.

Stayed for 1 week with 8 family members, all adults. All rooms were en-suite. The two bedrooms downstairs were good size, but the wash basins are in the bedrooms not in the shower room. The windows next to the basins did not have blinds, so had to keep curtains closed all day as there is a walkway outside. The rooms were consequently dark. The double bedroom downstairs had a bed that was most uncomfortable (read about that in other reviews prior to holiday, and therefore we took a feather duvet with us to place on the mattress). This should not have been necessary. We also realised before booking that the kitchen was small. In fact it was not as small as we had anticipated - however, you have to walk from kitchen through lounge to conservatory. As we had breakfast in the conservatory (and made packed lunches for the men going fishing) we had to do a re-arrange - brought toaster in from kitchen. Split food between the two fridges to ensure the items we required in the conservatory was in the fridge in the hall. This could easily have been remedied when the barns were remodelled, by having the kitchen built next to conservatory in the square area . However, we did have some interesting discussions over breakfast as to how we would have redesigned the downstairs areas. The showers in some of upstairs bedrooms were not in enclosure or with a curtain. There was plenty of cupboard/wardrobe space in the bedrooms. A nice touch was the fruit, milk, butter etc. left for us on arrival. As we were so busy going out and about, we did not have time to use the games room. All in all, we were pleased all bedrooms were en-suite - as that is the main thing we look for on our annual family get together fishing holiday (women shopping and "doing lunch"). Very nice area and the men were delighted with the fishing lake they"found". But, we must say blinds at the windows in the downstairs bedrooms are a must. Also, the double bedroom's bedspread and curtains do look as if they have seen better days and do not look fresh. We would stay at the barns again even with its small niggles.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are so pleased that you hope to return to Walnut Tree House in the future and enjoyed the fact that all the bedrooms were en-suite. We appreciate you mentioning that blinds would be useful in the ground floor bedrooms and after 22 years without, we feel you have a very good point and they have now been put in place! We are sorry that you came prepared for an uncomfortable mattress, this was indeed replaced last summer after a customer had brought it to our attention in a review. Had you brought your concerns to us (we live on site) we would have offered you a replacement mattress as we always have new ones in reserve as we do know that a good night sleep whilst on holiday is very important. As for redesigning the property this is completely out of our control as the local planning restrictions will not allow us to make even the smallest of changes.
