I had booked this holiday, as a surprise for my wife, as part of her 60th birthday celebrations. We were a party of 11 (9 adults and two toddlers), with ages ranging from 15 months to 87 years.
I am very grateful to Cottages4you for finding this property, which was booked fairly late on (in February). This was after I had been very badly let down on a property booked the previous October (with a different company). The first property had a downstairs double bedroom, which would have been ideal for my 87-year old father, who has some issues with walking too far and climbing stairs, whereas this property had all bedrooms upstairs. Also, the shower room and (separate) toilet in the main part of the house property are downstairs.
The property does have, however, a studio flat at the road end of the indoor swimming pool (i.e. the length of the swimming pool away from the main house), which has its own shower room and toilet. This was was much better for dad, despite him having to negotiate stairs to get to the flat.
The property is very well-equipped, although a handbook or two would help. With the oven, for example, some guesswork was required before we could work it properly (some of the markings have rubbed away or are faded), especially the grill, as the supplied toaster does not appear to work. Also, research on the internet was required in order to work our how to use the hob. All part of the fun, I guess.
When we arrived, the very friendly lady who showed us round, did warn us that the door of the shower was too big for the shower itself and didn't close properly. Unfortunately, after two days, the door fell off while I was using the shower and, although it didn't break, my two sons and I were unable to put it back on. So, we 'parked' it against a cupboard and there it remained for the the remainder of the holiday.
The swimming pool was very well used, especially with two toddlers in the party. There is a warning notice on the wall at the house end of the pool, which should not be disregarded, as the pool surround does become slippery when wet. Care is needed to avoid falls or (as in the case of my 15-month old grand-daughter) doing the splits.
In the garden at the back there is a fair-sized, unguarded pond and small children should not be left unsupervised.
All that said, the property is a lovely family home and a great place to stay for a large party. La Foret-Fouesnant and other nearby towns, including Concarneau and Quimper, provide plenty of scope for sight-seeing. And there is a great beach, approximately two kilometres away.
By the way, the surprise worked a treat and my wife (and all the family) had a wonderful time.
