Description

This secluded, semi-detached villa, with air-conditioning throughout, is situated within easy reach of the seaside restaurants and facilities of Port-de-Bouc

This secluded, semi-detached villa, with air-conditioning throughout, is situated within easy reach of the seaside restaurants and facilities of Port-de-Bouc. A delightful and comfortable holiday villa, close to the owner’s home, it makes an excellent touring base, providing the opportunity to explore the lovely blue coast and creeks around Cassis. This chic seaside resort offers day excursions by boat to discover small creeks with some beautiful diving available. Port-de-Bouc is a small but growing seaside resort with sandy beaches accessible at reasonable walking distance (1.5km). Picturesque fishing and industrial ports nearby contrast with the melting pot and cultural city of Marseille, whilst within half an hour’s drive lies elegant Aix-en-Provence. This is a central position for visiting all of southern Provence and the Côte d’Azur. Returning to the villa, relax by the private pool surrounded by a large south facing terrace, or dine al fresco under the second shaded terrace with barbecue facilities and pizza oven.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with open fire and French doors to terrace. Kitchen. Separate WC. First floor: Three bedrooms: two double, one twin. Bathroom with over-bath shower (no WC). Separate WC. Tiled floors throughout

The villa was clean and comfortable with a nice kitchen. I was disappointed there was no separate shower cubicle. The location overlooks an oil refinery. This means the smell of gas or oil from time to time but on the plus side there was always activity to watch with the tankers coming and going. The pool was a godsend and the grandchildren (3 & 5) went in every day and improved their swimming.

There were four adults in our party and two children (aged 6 and 4) and we had a wonderful stay at Villa Aldie. The villa is well equipped, including a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and tumble drier. There is an air-conditioning unit on each floor which is sufficient at night if you keep the bedroom doors open. The pool is brilliant (quite cold in the morning but it wakes you up!) and we couldn't keep our children out of it. There are some inflatables available at the villa for guests' use. There is no real "shallow" end and so both of our children were out of their depth for the whole length of the pool - a bonus because they were both swimming by day three! The villa overlooks an industrial port and it is a different and interesting view. There is nothing to one side of the villa except wasteland - the villa is set amongst a group of about 5 properties but there is nothing else around it. There is a walk of about 5 minutes before you arrive at anything which is along a quiet lane. The bakery near the end of the lane is lovely although comparatively pricey. The restaurants in Port de Bouc all seem to close between 2pm and 7pm and so for us the Sardinades were our eating place of choice (an amazing food festival that runs throughout the summer) as we didn't want to keep the children up late every night. We ate in some nights and the villa was well equipped for this - the local Carrefour is about a 4 minute drive away. This is not a tourist resort and most of the locals don't speak English and so if you are looking for a proper getaway this is it! The owners are lovely and exceptionally helpful. They are about most of the time and their front door is underneath the villa, so they use the area in front of the villa for access etc daily. However they are very discreet and the pool and sunbeds etc. are for the use of the guests only. The location is a great base for exploring further afield and the airport was a drive of approx 25 minutes. Altogether for the price we paid we thought it was excellent and we would definately return.
