This spacious, well equipped and tastefully furnished first floor apartment, with beautiful sea views stretching as far as the eye can see, ensures an excellent holiday destination. Valras-Plage is a fishing port and yachting harbour at the mouth of the River Orb, whose Theatre de la Mer hosts various shows during the summer months. Inland at only 6.25 miles (10 km) is the town of Béziers, capital of Languedoc vineyards. It was already a thriving city when the Romans arrived and colonised it in 35 B.C. It is a city which takes festivals and merrymaking very seriously. Shop 200m, restaurant 50m, café/bar 110 yards (100 m) and beach 10 yards.

All on first floor: Lounge, kitchen/diner, shower room with toilet and basin, 3 bedrooms: 2 double, 1 twin.

Electric heating, colour TV, stereo/CD player, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, balcony, outdoor furniture, off road parking for 1 car. Sorry, no pets.

We have been going to or near Valras-Plage on and off for nearly 20 years, the last 9 to this apartment. Unfortunately the town has changed. Restaurants are not as good and the local shopping options have decreased. Also, the "season" used to start in mid-June but this year nothing was starting until 1st July. The empty plot adjacent has now been built on - a large grey 2 storey building with a roof terrace. This has caused a loss of privacy in the bedrooms and the loss of sunlight in the apartment making it quite gloomy. The best entertainment we had was watching everyone on the promenade stop and stare at this new building with its solid grey steel gates and almost prison-like appearance! The owner of the apartment has always been friendly, helpful and welcoming to us. However, she does not seem aware of what people expect today but we got used to the apartment and made do as it was worth it for all the other benefits of being there, but as we have said, things have changed.

We come to France each year for our holiday and we stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of July/beginning of August and the location is superb. The view over the beach is wonderful and we spent many lovely, warm evenings on the balcony (all the more enjoyable if you enjoy people watching!). The beach is really great and the sea is lovely and clear. Our son particularly enjoyed the beach volleyball courts that are free to use on the beach. My wife found that there are free Aerobics classes every weekday morning directly opposite the apartment on the beach which she enjoyed making use of. This is not a quiet location - we did not expect it to be and it was not a problem for us. The restaurants in the town are excellent and the food reasonably priced considering the high quality of the food. The only downside is if you enjoy a beer - it was very expensive in the bars and restaurants we visited. The apartment is spacious - 3 proper double bedrooms. Unfortunately each of the beds was uncomfortable - even our children (12 & 9) found their double beds uncomfortable. Our mattress was more or less 'U' shaped and neither of us had a good, deep sleep during our stay. I would say that all of the mattresses need replacing. The bathroom also needs replacing in my opinion. It appears to be the original bathroom from when the property was first built. It is very dated and tired. The sink tap leaks and the shower tray is small and marked and has only a curtain. The tiling and grouting is showing its age. General décor is ok though there was peeling paint in the front bedroom and around the balcony. The sofas were very comfortable. The kitchen appears well equipped but there is no kettle and the washing machine (which only seemed to work on 1 setting) and fridge freezer (iced up quickly whatever setting we used) appear to be on their last legs (we did not use the dishwasher). We also found many of the pans to be in an un-useable state (non-stick surfaces to be damaged) to the extent that we went and bought one to use. To sum up; the location of the apartment is excellent, it is very spacious and the balcony (peeling paint aside) and its view are great. We really liked Valras Plage and all that it has to offer and we really enjoyed our holiday. We would holiday in Valras Plage again in the future but would not stay at this apartment unless we knew the issues with the mattresses, kitchen appliances/equipment and bathroom had been addressed.
