Just a short drive from the northern ports of France, you can experience life in a real French château, with five acres of shared gardens and mature trees together with a lake. The holiday properties have been lovingly restored by their English owners with great attention to detail and are within walking distance of Hesdin with its popular Thursday market, restaurants and bars to enjoy. The properties are ideally placed for exploring the 7 Vallées region with its pretty villages nestling in the valleys, yet under an hour from the lovely sandy beaches of the Côte d’Opale’s seaside resorts including Le Touquet and Hardelot. Enjoy the many summer festivals in the region, browse for bargains at the local brocantes or enjoy lunch and dinner in one of the many restaurants nearby. The area is very popular with walkers, cyclists and canoeists alike with excellent facilities nearby. Dine al fresco on the terrace in front of the château or enjoy a picnic in the grounds.

All on first floor: Living room. Dining room with doors to balcony terrace. Kitchen. Double bedroom. Shower room/WC.

Location: 300m from Marconne centre (shop, bar, restaurant), 700m from Hesdin (market, restaurants, bars, supermarket), 35km from Berck (beach).

Both properties: Shared 5-acre garden with lawned area and small lake (take care with children)

We loved this apartment. It was so quirky and different, the front door to the property is the huge door you see at the front and the living space is upstairs, you also have the balcony above the door which is brilliant to sit out on. This is not a shared entrance so feels private. It is filled with antique furniture, pictures and books which we loved. We had everything we needed here. The chateau is set in a lovely park with a big pond and lots of ducks and it's such a tranquil place to sit. It's really close to Hesdin which is a town with loads of shops, cafes and has a great market on Thurs mornings. It only takes 10 minutes to walk into the centre. The caretakers, Esther and Richard, couldn't have been more lovely and helpful and have a good knowledge of the area so you can get the most from your stay. We would definitely recommend the turret apartment, we hope to go back sometime.

A very interesting property to stay in, beautiful gardens and your own balcony, plenty of restaurants and bars nearby and lovely places to visit within an hours drive.

This is a great place to say if you want to soak up the feeling of traditional French chateau decor but you're not too hung up on luxurious amenities. The apartment is spacious with a very generous hallway and an impressive staircase leading to a cute dining area then into an enormous lounge. There is a balcony with delightful views of the grounds. It can definitely be described as 'shabby chic' but for my taste it was rather more shabby than chic. Some of the chairs had lost their stuffing and the dining chairs were literally falling apart. Occasional chairs in the entrance hall were unusable with ripped covers and stuffing poking out. The kitchen was basic but adequate with a decent fridge and a basic cooker. The oven however was greasy and grubby inside which put us off using it, but the hob was fine. There is plenty of hot water although the kitchen tap is loose and very wobbly which makes it a bit tricky to use. The bedroom is adequate with a double bed, a chest of drawers and a good mirror, although there is nowhere to hang clothes up. I think I noticed a wardrobe downstairs but did not want to traipse down two flights of stairs to use that. The shower room is probably due an overhaul. There is little or no grout between the tiles which means that the tiles move underfoot. The loo and wash hand basin are basic but fine and the shower is a little dated. The shower tray fills with water during use and I had to turn it off and wait for the tray to empty before continuing. I'm not sure if that is a limitation of the plumbing or if it just needed a good helping of drain unblocker. The lounge is comfortable with a couple of armchairs and a sofa, a writing desk, TV and a fabulously large window overlooking the grounds. The grounds are very pretty and it literally is a short walk into nearby Hesdin. We visited in early September and very little was open. On a couple of evenings we could find no more than one or two restaurants open but generally the town has just about what you need. It's easy to buy groceries as there is a town centre convenience store as well as a couple of supermarkets just a few minutes away. We found that it was a short trip to places like Montreuil, Etaples and Le Touquet where there really was much more going on. The Turret apartment sleeps two but is part of a chateau containing another apartment with accommodation for ten people. The other apartment contains rooms that are above the Turret apartment and because of the wooden floors we were woken up around 6:30 am each morning by the clattering noise of the people above. All in all, I'd say this is quite a good base for a quiet holiday. It's an impressive looking building with ample parking but it's definitely in need of some attention. The paint on the exterior woodwork is flaking off and a slightly damp smell suggests some leakage to parts of the building. I would describe the amenities as basic rather than luxurious and some general maintenance is definitely needed. We booked for seven nights but left after four.
