Charming and unusual, this cosy circular thatched toll cottage lies just half a mile from Chard in the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated on the A30 Chard to Honiton road the cottage enjoys stunning views, and is ideally placed for exploring Somerset’s many attractions and Dorset’s Heritage coastline. Beer is just 15 miles away and Sidmouth and Lyme Regis are easily accessible. Shops, pubs and restaurants 0.5 miles.

All on ground floor: Living room with flagstone floor. Dining area/kitchen. 1 bunk bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Steep stairs to first floor: 1 double bedroom with sloping ceiling.

Open fire in living room (initial fuel included). Electric heaters and electricity by meter reading. Bed linen and towels included. Stereo/CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Hedged garden with orchard, terrace and furniture. Parking.

    I loved it and I would certainly like to return sometime It is so different from the regular boring holiday let's out there, you are literally transported to another time (no another world) you feel like you are staying in a 'hobbits' house. The owners have really bought into and kept the spirit of this wonderful building but quaint period places like this do have some draw backs if you are used to modern standards of comfort. Importantly, it felt clean and tidy. The complimentary bottle of thatchers was very welcome. I can certainly understand why some people might find this cottage somewhat challenging with no central heating and a bit draughty (could have done with a couple more sausage draught excluders for the doors) but I coped I just put on an extra layer. My stay was in February which coincided with one of the coldest days of the year but I certainly felt comfortable enough with the roaring open fire throwing all the heat I needed. As far as the the A30 is concerned, I'm a Londoner so traffic not a problem. I could go on about how much I liked this property but you'll probably lose the will to live. All I can say is I dearly hope the owners keep the place as it is and avoid uvpc double glazing. What you see on the website is what you get.

    The cottage its self was very nice but the damp musty smell was really bad. We all had sore throats because of how bad it was. The entire house would have benefited from a good clean. Even the bed sheets had dog or human hairs in it. It's a shame because with a bit of effort the cottage would have been perfect but to have to clean the place the minute you turn up is not what you want to be doing on a break. Also if you state the first basket of logs is free then giving three logs doesn't really qualify as a basket. Despite all of the above it is a beautiful cottage.

    Perfect little cottage. Picturesque and renovated appropriately. Very well equipped. Great location for the surrounding area and close enough to the town of Chard. The road was very busy and there was some road noise but you did get used to it after a couple of days. The same with the steep stairs. Loved the orchard. The only thing missing for me was a proper patio area. There is a wooden picnic table in the orchard but because of the slope it was very difficult to sit at.
