Description

From its wonderful elevated position, The Linhay overlooks an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

These beautifully converted stone barns (refs GTM and GTN), adjacent to the owners’ home, are set between the picturesque villages of Altarnun and Polyphant. Both properties combine mellow stone walls and old beams, have well-equipped kitchens and their own garden with furniture, patio and barbecue. The holiday cottages have an elevated position overlooking an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provide an excellent centre for exploring the coastal paths and moors of both Devon and Cornwall. The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and several magnificent National Trust houses and gardens are within easy reach, as well the fascinating seaside villages of Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and the food capital of Cornwall, Padstow. An Ordinance Survey walk passes right by the cottages and the area is a walkers’ paradise. The historic market town of Launceston, 5 miles, offers supermarkets, shops, a castle and sports facilities. Plymouth and its many attractions is 25 miles away. The area has a growing reputation for good pubs, restaurants, farm shops and locally produced food. Admired golf courses, fishing, horse riding and cycle ways can be found nearby. Shops and pub 2 miles.

‘Upside-down’ style property. Upper ground floor: Large, double-aspect living room with wood-burning stove and views over garden. Spacious, beamed kitchen/dining room with high pitched ceiling, exposed stone walls and door to patio and garden. Double bedroom. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Lower ground floor: Hall. Steps down to two twin bedrooms. Bathroom with electric over-bath shower and toilet.

Beautiful, deceptively large cottage - very comfortable and fully equipped. Local amenities were very good and the Rising Sun (as recommended by our host) is definitely worth a visit. Location in North Cornwall was ideal for us - the coastline is stunning. Great value for money - look forward to returning soon.

This should be a nice cottage. It's in a good location and the owner is pleasant and helpful. But the experience was totally spoiled by the overwhelming smell of dampness, with very obvious damp patches in the downstairs hall area. Despite the owner obviously seeking to offset this with electric air fresheners it was an incredibly strong smell on entering the property, and even when standing at the top of the stairs. Clothes and papers in the two downstairs bedrooms were affected by this. A real pity because it was otherwise a good place to stay.
