Cumbrian Cottages

The Cumbrian Regional Specialist - Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Cumbria better!

Description

Characterful, Lakeland cottage with a wealth of exposed beams, fine fell views and parking for up to four cars offering excellent facilities for a larger gathering of family and friends in an excellent location close to both the lake and village.

Built around 1760, this charming, ancient farmhouse was once part of Lowfold Farm, nestling in a small cluster of older properties on the fringes of Ambleside, set half way between the village and the Lake on the original old road into Ambleside. Some excellent walking can be enjoyed straight from door, the footpath to Jenkins Crag and leading onto Wansfell being literally over the garden wall whilst the delights of this now rather cosmopolitan village are a level 5 minute stroll. An eclectic mix of restaurants serving international cuisine are on hand to tempt you throughout the day and into the evening whilst a good selection of interesting shops and outdoor outlets will ensure you have all the ingredients for supper and that you’re kitted out for all types of Lakeland weather!
Treacle Cottage retains its thick stone walls and a wealth of exposed original beams and is the perfect example of a traditional Lakeland property. Fine fell views can be enjoyed from most of the rooms, particularly from the first floor, the tiered gardens to the rear a delight at any time of the year. Treacle Cottage, set out over three floors, offers comfortable and flexible accommodation for the larger party. With two cosy lounge rooms and plenty of bathroom facilities, each couple or individual can be assured of a quiet space to take in some holiday reading or simply to sit on the deep window sills and take in the views towards Fairfield Horseshoe and Wansfell and plan your walks for the days ahead! Although the upstairs is absolutely perfect- and it was great that all bedrooms had en-suites- the downstairs was a little cramped and dark and could, perhaps, benefit from some redecoration. The location couldn't be bettered and we enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was extremely well equipped.

Response on behalf of the owner. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay in our lovely cottage. Treacle Cottage is over 260 years old with thick walls and old beams. It has been sympathetically renovated to retain its original character but provide a comfortable, well equipped base for families and groups of friends.

Excellent accommodation for a family get together, 8 in the group . Age range 8 years to 70 years. Being able to walk the dog from the rear door up to the woods was perfect. Shopping within easy reach. Places of interest abound and we were only caught out once by assuming the that shops would be open later in Ambleside. Should the family members from America come again we shall certainly consider booking Treacle Cottage.

We were six guys under single status based in Ambleside for a week's climbing and hill walking - important things for us were the 3 en suite bathrooms and two communal bathrooms. Apart from breakfast we ate out. The cottage suited us well both for night time comfort and the short time we relaxed in the property.
