Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Situated in a rural setting, guests can enjoy a relaxing holiday at this property, with the added bonus of a wood-burning stove.

Nestled peacefully in 7-acre open/woodland grounds, on the edge of the Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire borders, this charming, semi-detached (other property unoccupied) barn conversion, adjacent to the owners’ home, makes a perfect holiday base for families or couples looking to explore the rolling hills and unblemished beaches of west Wales. The barn has been sympathetically resorted to retain much of its original attractive features, including stone walls and oak beams. Lots of welcoming touches have been added, such as slate flooring and a traditional wood-burning stove for those cosy nights in. Guests can relax on their own private patio area and enjoy splendid views over the 7 acres of woodland. For the more energetic, cycle the many local cycle routes or take a short drive to the rugged Preseli Hills and ramble the numerous trails amongst the picturesque countryside. The nearby market towns of Newcastle Emlyn and Carmarthen are rich with Welsh culture and offer an array of traditional pubs and restaurants, boutique shops and medieval castles. Visit Laugharne, home of the famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, where visitors can discover his iconic boat house or explore the 13th-century Norman castle which lies on the fringe of the glistening river Taf. Take a trip to the popular tourist resort of Tenby and discover its selection of sandy beaches and spectacular coastline, or enjoy thrilling leisure parks, including Oakwood and Folly Farm. Golf can also be found in the local area. Beach 16 miles. Shop 9 miles, pub 3 miles.

Spacious, open-plan, beamed living room with wood-burning stove and French doors/dining room with galley-style kitchen area and slate floors. First floor: Beamed double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. Further double bedroom. Bunk bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. All rooms with wooden floors.

Top Barn is a very well equipped modern barn, but it can do with a good clean as there are quite a few webs in most of the corners. Its very rural and local amenities can take you up to a 20 minute drive. Little touches like kids games and toys were thoughtful. Lovely looking barn, but not ideal for us.

Despite the mixed weather our family group had a great holiday based at Top Barn. The property is deep in the Welsh countryside so beautiful views, peace and quiet compensate for the slightly longer drive to amenities and attractions. The property is well furnished and equipped with a very large well maintained grassed area - great for the dog and the grandchildren. The presence of barn owls was a bonus. The owners who live close by are extremely pleasant and helpful.

Lovely base to come back to. Private and really good for dogs as large private garden. Very nice friendly owners. If you don't want to leave your dogs downstairs alone the owners will put a bed settee in cottage downstairs for your use, ask upfront before you arrive.
