Description

Enjoy a tour round the local vineyard, or spend a day in Okehampton. This spacious retreat provides impressive accommodation in a beautiful area.

Whether it’s a romantic weekend away or a weeks’ stay in this spacious retreat, then look no further. The name ’Tom Putt’s’ derives from a variety of apples grown in the orchard garden. The thoughtfully designed interior offers an excellent level of comfort, with a large living/dining room, well-equipped kitchen and an impressive large bedroom overlooking the rear terraced garden. You will really feel spoilt at this cottage. Situated in a quiet, rural location, next to the owners’ 16th century thatched farmhouse, this semi-detached barn conversion enjoys views of the surrounding countryside towards Dartmoor.

The village of Northlew is about a mile away with its pub and community run shop. Located near the cottage is a local vineyard, producing award-winning wines, which has organised tours and tastings, and the best news is you can simply walk home. Nearby Okehampton, the gateway to Dartmoor, is a short distance away. As well as having a good selection of shops and amenities, it has very good access to the Dartmoor National Park, where you can enjoy the dramatic landscape. Okehampton castle and nearby Castle Drogo (National Trust) are worth a visit, or walk along the old railway to Meldon Reservoir and enjoy the stunning views.

The location of the cottage makes it an ideal base from which to explore the North Cornwall and Devon areas. There are stunning beaches at Woolacombe and Sandymouth. Enjoy a day out at Hartland and visit the lighthouse, Hartland Quay and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. If gardens are of interest, you will find the RHS gardens at Rosemoor a delight. There are numerous National Trust properties in the surrounding area, and other local attractions include Roadford Lake and Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre. Golf and horse riding are available nearby, or perhaps bring your bike and cycle the Tarka Trail. Shop and pub 1¼ miles.

Ground Floor:
Living/dining room: With multi-fuel burner, 32" Freeview TV, DVD player and iPod dock.
Kitchen: With gas cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and stable door leading to rear terraces and orchard garden.

This is an absolutely stunning place to stay. It has top quality furnishings/decor etc, and nothing is done on the cheap, what ever you need, it is there. Everything you use is of top quality. The cleanliness of the property is of high standard, and there was nothing you could give a negative comment on. Even cleaning/toiletry products were of top quality. It is absolutely huge, and enough for a family of 4-6, so loads of room for 2 people. The bedroom is absolutely huge, with a super king bed, and a TV so you can relax at the end of an active day, and watch your favourite program in bed. The bathroom of high standard, with a great powerful shower, which leaves you feeling like you have just had a massage etc. It is definitely a 5 star property, in a fantastic location, with wonderful views. You have your own garden space to enjoy sitting out with that glass of wine etc, when winding down after a day touring lovely Devon etc. The owners are so lovely, they are so friendly, and down to earth people, and are also very accommodating. We have stayed at Tom Putt's Barn twice this year, and I feel like I have known Cheryl and Malcom for years, that is how you feel when you have met them. You are welcomed with a lovely devon tea, and a bowl of fruit is also left for you to enjoy. We will definitely stay here again in the future. I could've stayed here for the rest of my days. We have stayed in quite a few beautiful cottages in Devon over the years, but I must admit, that Tom Putt's Barn is definitely the best so far. Tom Putt's Barn is definitely great value for money, (compared to other cottages etc, which are so over priced & not in as good a condition etc) as we visit Devon so that we can see our grandchildren/family, and by TomPutt's Barn being the price it is, it makes it possible for us to visit more than once a year, because it is affordable, (especially when you are on a budget as we are) and you get absolutely loads for your money. So I woulod like to just say a thank you to Cheryl and Malcolm for such a wonderful stay in your stunning cottage.

Tom putts cottage is a well designed and beautifully finished farm building conversion,it has everything you need is really clean and the owners ,who live in the adjacent thatched farm house are lovely friendly people .The area is beautiful but quite remote ,the cottage is approached by going down some country lanes which can be narrow at times so you need to have your wits about you although the roads are pretty quiet most of the time.A beautiful place to stay and explore Dartmor and surrounding areas

Well-appointed, spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation in quiet, rural surroundings. A great place to get away from it all as well as a good base for exploring Dartmoor and North Devon. The owners, Cheryl & Malcolm, were welcoming, helpful and friendly. We would definitely recommend Tom Putt's Barn.

This is an amazing cottage in amazing countryside. If you want to get away from it this is the place to go. Ideally located to visit Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. The owners were the perfect hosts with a wealth of knowledge of the best routes to take when going out and very friendly and helpful. We can highly recommend this cottage.

Absolutely beautiful cottage, very well equipped with everything being quality, from cleaning products, to furniture etc, and it was so comfortable and relaxing. Enjoyed our time at Tom Putt's cottage very much, and would recommend highly to family and friends. Really lovely owners, who were very friendly, and down to earth, and was very kind and helpful. The location was beautiful, and scenery was exquisite, with views over the Devon hills for miles. Although it is next to owners cottage, you still get quite a lot of privacy, and have your own patio (from the bedroom) and gardens (from Kitchen and bedroom) to sit, and relax, with your favourite book, and a glass of wine. Just stunning. It was located quite well to explore the rest of Devon, (and Cornwall if required). Close to Dartmoor, and also Exmoor if you would like to drive that little bit further. We enjoyed it that much, we have already booked for Sept so that we are able to see our grandchildren again. The grandchildren were able to visit us at the cottage, as the owners were quite happy for us to have visitors, as we have not been able to do this when we have stayed at other cottages over the years, as they stated no visitors during our stay etc. Our reasons for visiting Devon is to see family/grandchildren, and to have found somewhere, where it is Ok for my family/grandchildren to visit us whilst we are over that way, makes life so much easier, happier. Can't wait to return to the cottage, and as we know it is a 'home from home' cottage, and we know/and don't worry, about things we need to take with us, as the cottage as everything you need to make it feel as though you are at home. So, from cooking breakfast/dinner, to needing to wash/dry/Iron your clothes, this cottage as everything you need to complete these tasks, if required. I was also very surprised at the price, as it was quite affordable, if the price had been any higher, it wouldn't have been possible for us to visit Devon, as most cottages are so expensive, that they are above our price range, and you get so much for your money too. We also like the fact that there are no animals/dogs allowed at this cottage, which suits us fine because when staying at a previous cottage, I ended up with bites all over my legs due to finding fleas in the cottage, and although the owners of Tom Putt's Cottage have 3 dogs, they do not allow their dogs to enter the cottage, or go into the gardens linked to the cottage, as they explained this to us. The owners leave a lovely welcome cream tea, and fresh fruit, along with tea, coffee and milk etc, the welcome you receive on arrival is very warm and friendly, and you end up feeling like you have known Cheryl & Malcolm (the owners) for a long time. Can't wait for Sept for our next visit/stay at Tom Putt's Barn/Cottage.

Tom Putt's Barn is utterly idyllic. The place was so spacious and spotless we felt like we were in paradise. Highlights were the power shower, airy upstairs area and the dishwasher!
