Description

Pet friendly cottage with wood burning stove and inglenook fireplace, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and Camber Sands nearby.

This attractive detached house set in the owner’s grounds provide spacious holiday accommodation situated at the end of a mile-long lane in glorious rural surroundings. Pet friendly and offering a plethora of walks on the doorstep, the cottage offers good quality linen and towels and a superb self catering base. There is a public footpath leading off the owner’s drive providing miles of walks across open countryside. A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (NT) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive. An excellent sky venue for astrology, photography, or just wishing on a star. Shops 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Really enjoyed our long weekend at The Granary - well equipped kitchen, 2 double beds were comfy, but single beds too soft. Sitting room well planned out, but poor lighting for reading. Would return at a later date.

Lovely cottage, could do with a bit of a freshen up with a lick of paint and the beds weren't the most comfortable ever but the reviews of poor cleanliness were unfounded. The property was clean. There was fresh milk and cakes left for us which was welcome (it's far from any shops!) but a couple of teabags wouldn't have gone amiss! The facilities in the house were great, large cooker, large fridge and dining table, plenary of bathrooms and the games were great. Couldn't get the sky to work properly but I'm sure if you have the same problem the owners (who were very obliging) would sort that out for you. A great value property which is a short drive from some of the best beaches in England (with quaint villages nearby)

Although some annoying features about Granary Barn (some squeaky flooring upstairs, sleeping eating and cooking upstairs but lounge is downstairs so constantly going up and down the stairs for instance) it's in a pleasant spot away from any roads and owner very quick to sort out any problems.

We had a wonderful stay at The Granary. The house was comfy and warm and clean. It was well equipped and well set up. We were a group of 8 people aged from 5-80 and we were all happy. We used the house as a base for trips to Rye and Hastings and Camber Sands but we equally enjoyed hanging out together at home playing pool, or table football, or watching the Sky TV, or playing cards and board games. The beds were comfy and the water pressure was good. There was plenty of crockery so we never ran out before the dishwasher was full. We cooked at least 3 full meals very happily and only set the smoke alarm off once (when we tried to cook corn on the cob on the hob BBQ) the range is fantastic and the tumble dryer is the best I've ever encountered (it rained when we were out walking made us all muddy so we washed all the muddy stuff and even jeans were dry again very quickly!) It was really wonderful to arrive and find milk already in the fridge for an immediate cuppa, as we'd booked an Ocado delivery for later in the evening, so had assumed we'd have to wait! Nice touch there there were also cakes and fruit to snack on. A really nice house, with great character and beautiful surrounding scenery.
