A superb property steeped in history with all modern conveniences in delightful location.

We are delighted to include The Tower House within our portfolio, situated at Newbiggin, only 10 minutes drive from the M6 motorway. Ideally placed for exploring the delights of both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, Windermere is a mere 25 minutes drive away with Sedbergh and the impressive Howgill fells a 10 minute walk from the door. Once home to Elizabeth Gaunt, the last woman to be burned at the stake at Tyburn and a principal hiding place of Prince Charlie, The Tower House has a significant history, and the property retains the tower, which was used as a lookout for raiders from the Borders. Comfortable furnishings with many personal touches blend well with original features of oak panelling, flagstone floors and exposed stonework. The accommodation is spacious and flexible offering plenty of opportunity for escaping the rest of the party, both inside and out, to sit quietly and absorb the ambience of this truly unique house. The grounds are delightful with a variety of areas for sitting out and you’re almost guaranteed a sighting of red squirrels. There is plenty of level playing ground, including an orchard for the younger members of your party to run off some energy before enjoying dinner in the impressive dining hall.

A fabulously interesting house full of character and charm. We loved the old panelled walls and mullion windows. There was plenty of space for four generations to stay together but to also find a quite spot when needed. The kitchen was well equipped for all types of cooking. We loved the AGA and the warm cosy kitchen soon became the hub of the house. The children enjoyed the well stocked playroom. The highlight of our holiday was the Red Squirrel which visited the garden most days to fetch hazel nuts. Thank you for a fantastic stay. I would definitely recommend this house but its many steps and different floor levels might make it unsuitable for guests with limited mobility.

A beautiful house and gardens, conveniently positioned between the Lake District and the Dales. Very well-equipped. We got the hang of cooking on an Aga. Lots of useful cleaning products provided. Beautiful views and lovely walks from the doorstep. Perfect for extended family holiday as the house has so much room for you to spread out.

Home from home. Easy to believe you live in this fascinating historical property since there is absolutely everything you need in the house bar food. Great country, family house. Children loved the play room and all that us in it, once the managed to find it- they loved exploring on arrival- something they'll always remember I think!
