Refurbished and beautifully furnished with private patio and pebbled courtyard overlooking fields, it lies within walking distance of a variety of pubs and restaurants. Whitby, with its delightful harbour and marina is within easy reach, offering numerous seaside amenities. Inland, the North York Moors National Park offers excellent walking and country inns serving excellent food. Shops 1 mile.

    We had a fabulous time at the Toll Bar, the house is big with character, v warm, cosy and well stocked with ever home comfort. Close to great seaside towns, wonderful sea views making it very peaceful, a real retreat and getaway.

    Stayed in this property twice and is ideal for family and friends , great value especially in the winter months which as a family we prefer this time to visit Whitby . Very clean and well equipped .

    Although the cottage sleeps 8 it is not equipped to feed 8. The cooker is too small and there are too few serving dishes. Other than the fridge and freezer there is absolutely no cupboard space for any food. Equipment did not work properly e.g. tumble drier was ineffective, DVD player had no connecting leads so was useless. There were also issues with security of some of the windows. All theses issues were reported in the visitors book with promises of prompt rectification, but 12-18 months on nothing had happened. Had it not been for the stunning location the cottage was a great disappointment, which is unfortunate because a little bit of effort and attention to detail could make the cottage really good.

    Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. The cooker is a normal double oven of family size. The microwave is a combination oven for any extra banquet style meal. There is a standard four ring hob.We supply a 12 place setting of all table ware inclusive of plates, side plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery. Plus half a dozen Pyrex dishes of various sizes for serving from.The DVD connection lead was with the entertainment set up, but had been disconnected by a previous guest who had used a lap top set up. If the guest had contacted us we would have sorted this problem same day. The windows have inhibitors on them which are repeatedly forced by guests who want the windows open wide.
