We stayed at The Thatch for one week and brought our dog Bobby and my 9 year old step son. We have stayed at several holiday cottages over the years, and very much like a home from home so might sound a bit picky about a couple of points in my review. We all loved the cottage in a fab location about 3 mins drive from Moreton in Marsh. The cottage was generally very clean and well kept. There are 2 x 2 seater sofas which are quite small and 2 footstools, which is not enough if you have 5 or 6 people in the property. I sat on the stairs most of the week as my parents hogged the sofas. The TV is fairly small and although there is freeview it lacks choice. If I was staying here again I would pack a DVD player. We like to watch something as a family in the evenings. The Kitchen is well equipped with cutlery and plates, but the freezer in the kitchen is at the top of the fridge and is very small, however there is another, larger freezer in the shed. I would have liked more large saucepans/ bigger frying pan for 6 people, but this isn't the end of the world and if I'm being really picky - some bigger mugs. We went and bought some to use from the local Budgens. The garden is to the side of the property and although enclosed (when the gate is shut - which you can not do with 2 cars on the drive) it is right next to the main road. The road is only busy with farm traffic however, which there was quite a bit of the week we stayed, but it's fine and rather exciting for a London family to see. Reversing out of the drive onto the road is tricky because you are on a sharp bend and a more nervous driver might not have been as happy as I was, but you can park across the road in the pub car park. The garden backs onto the graveyard from the church, but you can not see this from the garden itself, only from one of the upstairs bedroom windows - so I pretended it wasn't there. Back inside - there are two steps up to one of the bedrooms (at the top of the stairs) which limited where my parents could sleep as my dad is not very mobile. He also found the sloping ceiling in the bedroom difficult to manage and the landing is sloped down due to uneven floor, which, due to his mobility issues he found a little tricky. Wardrobes in the hall for 2 bedrooms. Bathrooms are lovely with plenty of hot water and the en suite shower is lush! Gorgeous welcome pack for the kitchen and the bathroom (and the dog). We didn't use the log burner, but we did use the central heating and it was snug quite quickly. Downstairs of the cottage considerably cooler than outside, which was nice on a hot day. Another plus is there are lots of books to peruse. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, lovely the area (especially Boughton on the Water) I would stay here again, maybe not with my parents (so we get a look in on the sofa) I would recommend this property, but be aware of the couple of points I made in this review.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed your stay at The Thatch. It really is a beautiful period cottage and one of its many charms are the sloping roofs and original features, but appreciate that not everyone is used to how this can sometimes limit space for large furniture. The Thatch is a pretty country cottage, as shown in the pictures, that can sleep 6, but we only offer it to a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children. The sofas comfortably sit 4 people, but they are of a narrow style in design, which is helpful in expanding the living space in the cosy lounge are, slightly narrowed by the lovely open fireplace. There are two further footstools or even more fun option of the extra bean bags for the kids. I was a little confused about your comments on the DVD player though. We do in fact have a player which the TV is actually standing on - apologies for not pointing that out on arrival. We constantly strive to improve the experience for our guests and we had been organising an extensive DVD library for guest use, which unfortunately only arrived shortly after your stay! We managed to secure over 100 titles for visitors use. The TV is also connected to the internet; so on demand TV is always available. It is exciting watching the farm machinery travel through the village, guests often sit outside for hours even when it's not that warm, to soak up the country experience. I know that my own nieces and nephews love visiting and waving at the farmers as they go past. It's great having a drink in the garden, whilst the kid’s tractor spot. We fully understand the concerns of the parking on the drive and due to this we have an agreement with the pub to allow our guests to park in their car park (which is located directly opposite). We recommend guests reverse in as there is plenty of room for this - the drive even fits 2 cars if they aren't too long. Whilst the church yard is close to The Thatch, it cannot be viewed from the property or the garden. The only spirits you'll find in Todenham are those served in the pub next door! We appreciate your feedback as we always look at improving the guest’s experience. Many thanks and look forward to seeing you soon.
