Description

This single-storey property is in a peaceful location, yet just an hour’s drive from Aberdeen.

Excellent views

These two fabulous houses have been sympathetically converted from old farm buildings and stables to provide excellent accommodation for a family holiday in peaceful surroundings. Each house has its own private garden and has been cleverly designed to ensure privacy. The very spacious accommodation is warm and very comfortable (with air source heating and woodburners) and the ample living areas provide plenty of space to relax or enjoy family gatherings.
The Stables is a lovely spacious property with high ceilings and a woodburner, and The Coach House features a super master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and rolltop bath.
The properties are next to Tolquhon Gallery and Tolquhon Castle - known as one of the most picturesque castles in Grampian. This is ’castle country’ and there are many to explore in the area. There are many golf courses at hand, while Pitmedden Gardens and Haddo House are close by. Within easy reach of Balmedie Beach, Cruden Bay and Forvie Sands. Aberdeen is just half an hour’s drive. Shops, pubs and restaurants 3 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with double sofa bed, French doors, beams and laminate floor. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Underfloor central heating by air source heat pump included. Freeview TV. Washer/dryer.

All properties: Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair (on request). DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-Fi. Lawned garden with patio, sitting-out area and furniture. Parking (2 cars). No smoking.

The Stables provides good quality, comfortable accommodation in a good location for exploring Aberdeenshire, the Moray coast, Royal Deeside and, of course, the city of Aberdeen.

My wife and I rented this cottage for 7 nights in early October. The cottage is situated just over 1 mile off the B999 down a very narrow single-track road. The road goes past a farm and can be quite muddy and rough. The last few hundred yards to the cottage are extremely rough (I wouldn’t recommend this cottage if you have a sports car, particularly if it is low to the ground). The cottage itself is reached through a narrow ungated entrance and parking is available directly outside the cottage on a hard standing area. The cottage itself is of a good size with separate bedroom (very comfortable double bed), decent size shower room (unfortunately, the shower room is not provided with a heated towel rail and there is nowhere to hang other items), together with a good size kitchen/living area. It is also very well equipped with plenty of pans, plates, dishes, utensils, etc. There is a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, an induction electric cooker, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. There is a good size modern television and DVD player. Information/instructions are provided for all the electrical items. Wifi is provided which proved reliable although not particularly fast (around 4-5 MB/s). One of our main disappointments was that there was no welcome pack provided. All the other cottages we have stayed in over many years have provided a few essential items to see one through the first day or two - e.g., milk, bread, eggs, even bacon, sausages and homemade jam. We had driven from Newcastle that day and arrived late afternoon, so a welcome pack would have been good – the cottage is a few miles from the nearest shop (in Tarves), so it was not as though we could just pop out to the shop! The cottage is a bit isolated, but there are plenty of interesting places to visit (there is a very nice pub in Tarves, the Aberdeen Arms Hotel, which provides some excellent meals) – car essential, of course.

The cottage was in a good area for touring around. There are plenty of NTS and Scottish Heritage to visit plus the joy of the coastline. Don't miss Tolquhon Castle next door.

Our 5th visit. We found everything as before. The very high standard is maintained. This occasion was the first visit we have made in the winter. How very impressed we were by the efficiency of the heating system. The cottage was beautifully warm and cosy throughout our week during which there were some very cold temperatures outside. The location is excellent, safe for children, within easy reach of amenities and attractions. A most definite yes, yes.
