Retaining many original features, this former stable is in a rural setting, yet is only 15 miles from the city of Lincoln.

This beautifully converted, single-storey, former stable stands detached in the grounds of the owner’s home in the rural hamlet of Stragglethorpe. The property has retained many original features, and is just 8 miles from Newark and 12 miles from Grantham. The small village church is believed to be one of only four unaltered Saxon churches in the country. This is an ideal touring base with a visit to Lincoln and its imposing cathedral - used for the filming of ’The Da Vinci Code’ - just 15 miles away. Also within an easy drive are Belvoir Castle, Belton House, Southwell Minster and RAF Cranwell. The showground at Newark is host to many antique fairs and other events. Shop 3 miles, pub 1 mile.

Beamed open-plan living/dining room with wood-burning stove, kitchen area and French doors, all with tiled floor. Utility. Two double bedrooms, one with French doors, and twin bedroom with French doors; each with en-suite shower room and toilet or bathroom and toilet.

The stables is comfortable and with everything on one level it is long. I slept in the furthest bedroom from the kitchen/living area which meant walking down a long corridor, great for getting exercise (I was in the middle of a steps challenge for charity and so was able rack up loads of steps by going up and down the corridor). Good base for visiting various attractions. Security wise good because you have to go through an electric gate to get to the accommodation. One gripe, the position of the microwave, it is on a high shelf and you have to lean across a kitchen counter to open the door and take your food out. The door opens out towards you and so is in the way and I nearly burnt myself the first time, I then put it on a slant which was a bit better but had to be very careful.

A beautiful converted stable with many original features. Spacious, comfortable and well equipped . Plenty of space outside for children to run around in (ours enjoyed the football and net ) and for sitting out. All in beautiful setting with owners living in own property a little further up the drive. They were very friendly and helpful and our little girls fell in love with their dogs and didn't want to go home ! If you want shops /pubs /other amenities right on your doorstep this lovely place may not be the ideal choice for you as there is nothing in walking distance, the nearest shop is approximately 3 miles away. However if that doesn't bother you then The Stables is well worth booking. Would definitely book again. Plenty to do for all ages within easy driving distance.

The cottage is in a very pretty setting and first impression are very good. Overall the cottage was nice and convenient for travelling around. The cottage does need some tlc as it is looking tired. We have 2 dogs, it was great that we could take them with us. We had a major problem with the 'enclosed garden'. Although it is enclosed to the whole site, it is not enclosed to the cottage. Directly outside the front of the cottage is a driveway which leads to the main house, this divides the cottage from the garden. So for pets and small children this could be of some concern.

The stables was ideal for a family and friends get together, lots of space, great garden, pets allowed, easy access to Newark and Lincoln for tourism, and good eateries. Great ambience. But! Sofas very uncomfortable,as were some of the beds, embarrassing shortage of glasses ( we went out and bought some) although lots of everything else. All rooms dusty, towels well worn. One wet room needed attention to taps and toilet flush. A small investment of time and resource would make this an amazing and good value holiday base.

A lovely cottage which suited our needs - the garden is lovely and all enclosed for the dog. Owners on site - very friendly and helpful.

Lovely property and a great base for touring the area. The local pub was a bit further than we thought (a couple of people in our party aren't too great at walking). Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.
