Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

This charming retreat is wonderfully situated close to the beach and many fantastic attractions.

Nestled peacefully in an elevated position in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, this traditional, adjoining holiday cottage provides guests with a perfect romantic getaway. Situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Penally with its village shop, pubs and restaurants, guests can expect peace, tranquillity and beautiful sea views. The former stable which served the Manor House, dates back to the early 18th century and has been beautifully renovated into a charming retreat, with an open plan living area decorated with a rustic charm and featuring attractive original beams. Outside, guests can sit, relax and unwind on the private patio area and enjoy the uninterrupted views of the glistening coast, which captures the off shore island’s of Caldey, Worms Head and across the bay towards the Gower Peninsula. The historic walled town of Tenby, famous for its picturesque harbour, narrow cobbled streets and pastel painted Georgian houses, is a 5-minute drive away, or a bracing 30-minute walk along Tenby’s golden beach. A visit to the resort would not be complete with a memorable boat trip to Caldey Island, with its Celtic monastery and Cistercian monks, who have made it a holy island for hundreds of years. Away from the resort, Pembrokeshire’s historic sites are well worth a visit including Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew castles, as are the numerous charming market towns of Narberth, Haverfordwest and the quaint city of St David’s with its magnificent 12th-century cathedral. There are direct train links from Paddington and Cardiff Central to Penally Station, just 5 minutes’ walk away. Golf and water sports are within easy reach and sea fishing is free of charge (no licence is required). Beach 600 yards. Shop and restaurant 600 yards, pub 500 yards.

Spacious beamed living room open plan with contemporary kitchen with sea views and tiled floor. Shower room with toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with double doors leading to balcony. Single bedroom. Separate toilet.

Enjoyed our stay at the Stables cottage however there were a couple of niggles that we would like to point out. Firstly it should be made clear that there is a steep climb/access to the property which for some guests maybe a problem. Also the property had a continual smell of damp. In staying that, the cottage was cosy and we really enjoyed our weeks stay. The local pub , The Cross Inn was a short walk from the cottage. The food there was great value for money and it was dog friendly. We did walk into Tenby on a couple of occasions via the beach. The walk takes at least 45 minutes from the cottage. We have stayed in Pembrokeshire a few times now and love exploring its many excellent beaches and walks.

Response on behalf of the owner, Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I will investigate the smell of damp as this is not acceptable. We are closing the cottage for a refurbish over the winter so will remedy this. I would like to let any possible future guests reading this review know that the cottage is situated in an elevated position and the village road leading up to the cottage is on an incline as its up a hill but the cottage itself is on flat land. I'm not sure why any guests would have access issues with this as they will most likely be driving to the cottage and parking directly outside. Where there is a designated parking space.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Lovely cosy cottage in a peaceful location. It's clear the owners want you to enjoy their property. The welsh cakes and milk in the fridge was a thoughtful touch, We took our own throws for our dogs and also used the ones kindly offered to protect the furniture. The beach is a 15 min walk away and a further 30min walk across the beach to Tenby. I would not recommend this property to anyone with walking difficulties unless you use a car every time you go out, due to the steep hill the property is on. if I had to nitpick I would say the photos online need updating, due to the heavy traffic of people and dogs it's not quite as contemporary and fresh in appearance as the pictures imply. Nonetheless it's a lovely little cottage and ideal for a coastal peaceful break.

Response on behalf of the owner:- Hi Kate, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. The cottage was completely renovated 3 years ago when the photos were taken. We go at the beginning of each Summer season to bring it up to standard but we have been sold out back to back since March as it's a really sort after cottage, doing any major work over the Summer is difficult, however we feel it's still a beautiful well presented cottage. We are closing the cottage over the Winter 2017 to do a full renovation and add a balcony so we can take advantage of the amazing see views ready for 2018.

A lovely cottage in a superb location, a 5 minute drive from the centre of Tenby and a 15 minute walk from the beach. The cottage was ideal for the 3 of us and ideally located to allow us to enjoy the stunning Pembrokeshire coast. We would definitely stay there again.

Bad access to the property. Dogs hair on furniture.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. The cottage is tucked away which makes it a nice get away and its elevated position means it has great sea views. I will speak to the cleaner as hair on the sofa is not acceptable.
