Description

Among undulating hills, lies this lovely cottage offering a true haven in some of Yorkshire’s beauty.

The Yorkshire Wolds are often referred to as one of England’s ‘best kept secrets’ – a place waiting to be discovered. Here amongst the gently undulating hills, in the small village of Yapham, nestle these former farm buildings – a haven of peace and tranquillity, where wonderful walks abound and panoramic views over open countryside and the rolling wolds can be savoured from many rooms. With 4* gradings from Visit Britain, these holiday cottages have been restored to provide spacious and very comfortable accommodation, equipped to a high standard, and each enjoys its own sitting-out area with half an acre of shared gardens looking out towards Givendale and Garrowby Hill.
The bustling market town of Pocklington (2 miles) offers a good choice of shops, inns and restaurants, and is home to Burnby Hall Gardens, where visitors can take a stroll around its famous lily ponds, said to be amongst the finest in Europe. Those seeking more active pursuits will find many sporting facilities on offer, and golfers can try their luck on the local course. For a day full of adventure and variety, the historic walled city of York is just 12 miles distant. The range of activities on offer here is endless; wander amid atmospheric cobbled streets alive with street entertainers and lined with specialist shops just waiting exploration, marvel at the beauty of its ancient Minster, or step back in time at the Jorvik Viking Centre and Castle Museum. Alternatively view the city in a different light with a boat trip along the River Ouse or a night out at the theatre followed by a romantic meal at one of York’s excellent restaurants.
A 25-mile drive leads to the magnificent North York Moors National Parks, where open moorlands beckon the walker, and visitors of all ages can enjoy a trip aboard the North York Moors Steam Railway, which follows a scenic route from Pickering to Goathland (Heartbeat’s Aidenfield). For a day by the seaside, the coastal resorts of Bridlington and Filey offer wide sandy beaches (both within 30 miles), while a little further afield picturesque Whitby (overlooked by its abbey) has some good seafood restaurants and a cliff-top golf course. Locally, places of interest include the historic house and gardens at Castle Howard, together with Sledmere, Burton Agnes and Eden Camp. Racing at York, Beverley and Thirsk. Many villages with their own charming blend of craft shops, village stores and country inns to explore in the vicinity. Shops 2 miles.

The cottage had been redecorated which was a pleasant surprise. The bedrooms hadn't and were a bit tired in terms of decor and I imagine are next on the list to be decorated. Overall the cottage was very comfortable and would recommend, we had a very nice holiday. Only a few minor snags: - bathroom door wouldn't shut, - WiFi didn't work and - smoke alarm went off in the middle of night a couple of times for no reason ( randomly solved by leaving internal doors open at night!) But those are only minor issues, as I say we would recommend and stay again.
