Description

In the village of Sutcombe and Bude with its beaches is nearby and The Eden Project easily accessible.

This charming barn conversion sits within the pretty North Devon village of Sutcombe with lovely views towards the church overlooking the water meadows. There is a ⅓-acre private field opposite the cottage with a river frontage, where guests can fish for brown trout on the river bank (bring your own rods). Take a stroll to the local micro brewery which is open on Fridays and Saturdays serving local beers and ciders. An ideal location for holidays exploring both the North Devon and North Cornish coasts and countryside. Just a short drive from Tamar Lakes where coarse and trout fishing and watersports can be found. The beaches at Bude are 12 miles, and the Eden Project is approximately an hour’s drive. Shops and pub 2½ miles.

Living room: With electric wood burner, Freeview TV, DVD player with a selection of DVDs, CD player, beams and flagstone floor.
Kitchen/dining room: With electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine and flagstone floor.
Shower room: With shower cubicle and toilet.
First Floor:
Bedroom 1: With double bed, Freeview TV, beams and sloping ceiling.
Bedroom 2: With twin beds.
Bathroom: With bath, toilet and sloping ceiling.

    The cottage was dark needed a few trees and bushes cut back. We found the traffic noise constant.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, cutting the surrounding trees too much would spoil the character of the property. Regarding the road noise, there is one period of the year when the local farmers need access to dress the fields.

    Unfortunately the barn conversion in its location was too dark. Because of a lack of natural daylight there was an overriding smell of damp and lights needed to be on at all times of the day (other than upstairs bathroom). Owners should look into trying to put velux windows in the bedrooms. Also, because of the lack of daylight, towels & any washing couldn't dry properly (although summer we had rain & dew so hanging outside not really an option) and generally property felt too cool although not cold enough to warrant turning on heating. Although the cottage accepted dogs, the garden is not secure and our dog had to be watched all the times outside to make sure he didn't 'escape' through the unfenced shrubbery area on the left. The main lane running outside of the property is on the whole quiet, although very large, heavy tractors whizz by at great speed, so extra care is needed exiting the property either on foot or by car. Plus point was the meadow area opposite with the small river running through.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; It seems to me this guest maybe blaming the poor weather lately on the property. There are planning issues relating to installing Velux windows in barns and the existing windows are quite adequate, after all bedrooms are for sleeping in when its dark anyway. Any property will feel chilly and damp if it’s very rainy and you have damp clothes. We would recommending putting the heating on for short periods to make it more comfortable. The garden is adequately enclosed but if the dog is intent on getting through dense shrubbery then it shouldn't be left unattended anywhere.

    Clean and welcoming and generally nice holiday. No internet connection or telephone signal that would have been useful to know at the time of booking. Garden not secure for the dog. No fence on left hand side.

    Response on behalf of the owner: We are glad you enjoyed your holiday. With regards to WiFi; our property doesn’t advertise WiFi as the signal is very poor in our area. We request that pets are not left in the garden unattended.

    This is the second time we have stayed here and it's a lovely quite place. No distractions and all you need within a couple of miles. A great getaway from the rush of the city.
