Description

Blackdown Hills an AONB, between Honiton and Chard, offer great walks and with Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, and Exeter all easily accessible.

In a glorious setting in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and between Honiton and Chard, lie The Barns around a cobbled yard. Both detached holiday barn conversions are decorated and furnished to a good standard andhave their own gardens and fabulous views across the countryside. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s Grade II listed, medieval farmhouse, they are in an excellent location from which to explore numerous National Trust houses, great walks and the cathedral city of Exeter. Also within easy driving distance is the famous World Heritage Coast, as well as the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Beer, Branscombe and Exmouth. Situated between both Dartmoor and Exmoor National parks, both with brilliant walks, heather clad tors, ponies, rugged terrain and quaint villages. Within six miles there are local family run shops and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen. A lovely cottage in a beautiful and peaceful location. Wonderfully equipped and tastefully decorated. Helpful hosts in Jane and Stuart. Fresh milk and eggs on arrival were appreciated.

Our 2nd stay at the Shippon. We booked in for 4 nights over Easter as we know it's a lovely quiet retreat to come back to over a bank holiday. It's a lovely cottage with lovely views over the fields and the valley. It's got a great fire and a very generous amount of logs is left and the wood burner was even laid for our arrival which was great after a nightmare journey on the M5.It's very well equipped for a cottage if you like to cook.Jayne the owner and her son Stuart are really nice and very helpful but never obtrusive which we like.Fresh eggs and milk are left in the fridge for your arrival which was nice. Will definitely return!

This is a fabulous cottage and one of the nicest ones we've stayed in.It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We loved the lovely bright open plan layout with great views over the gardens. The fire was great and a huge basket of logs was left for us and the fire was already laid for us on arrival which was a nice touch. The cottage is situated up the lanes but we didn't find this a problem and it was convenient to reach Branscombe,Beer and Lyme Regis. Some people might find an issue with access from the parking as this is over uneven cobbles.Tricky with walking trainers on so no high heels! Also Wifi would be nice but the cottage is so nice,we didn't miss it all.Would definitely return!

This is by far the BEST holiday cottage we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in MANY. The location, the tranquility, the proximity to shops, the style of the property and most of all the VIEWS are absolutely to die for. We will definitely be coming back here again and again. There is no WIFI but that was a blessing in disguise and if we can survive a week with no internet considering we both run online businesses, anyone can. Please book this cottage - you won't be disappointed!

A beautifully converted & furnished ex-cowshed, in a tranquil farmland setting. It exceeded the information and pictures in the brochure - which is unusual. Jane's directions, greeting arrangements, welcome & eggs were all just right. Nice details such as binoculars & great selection of books to suit everyone. A wonderful place to relax - hooray for no wifi, phone signal or satellite TV. Two small things we would would have liked - a second chair in the bedroom so we could both put our clothes there. And a bit of information in the information folder on walking directly from the cottage. A really good atmosphere which reflects Jane's approach.
