Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Enjoy exhilarating coastal walks or cycle rides, or simply relax in this seaside property and appreciate those sea views.

The Shillies is the perfect seaside setting with amazing views of the Irish Sea, and on a clear day you can catch sight of the Isle of Man. Sit back and hear the rolling sounds of the Irish Sea whilst enjoying the outstanding sunset sipping your favourite tipple. The Shillies is a detached bungalow that has been a family home for over 40 years, seeing generations enjoying the calm and ultimate peace and quiet that this area has to offer. The Shillies has also undergone total renovation. Coulderton is a coastal village situated in Cumbria and is located just to the south west of Egremont and just on the outskirts of St Bees. The beauty of this area is that it is so close to the Lakes. Take a trip on the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature steam railway, known to the locals as the ’la ’al ratty’, or visit beautiful Muncaster Castle, home to the World Owl Centre. One of the main attractions of this area are the exceptional starry nights, which is due to no light pollution. Whitehaven is only a few miles away and is filled with popular restaurants and a world-famous port. You can visit the Beacon Museum here, which is bursting with history. Coast2Coast cycle routes, coastal walks and golf at St Bees and Seascale are all within easy reach and a single track railway runs along the back of the property. Whether you are looking for a relaxing seaside break or an adventurous walking holiday, then The Shillies is the perfect base for you. Beach 20 yards. Shop 3 miles, pub 2 miles, restaurant 1 mile.

the quality was not as good as it should have been for a four star property was not very clean at all the en suite was so cramped the main double bed was to hard the best thing about this place is the quiet relaxing setting with the lovely sea view from the living room and the kitchen a few issues that need to be inproved on over all still had a nice relaxing holiday but wasnt as good as it should have been especially for the cost

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments, we were glad to hear that you had a nice relaxing holiday in the quiet relaxing setting with the lovely sea view. We were sorry to hear about the couple of issues you had with the sticky table and the en-suite that we spoke about and seemingly resolved during your stay. A score of 3/10 for cleanliness, when we are used to receiving 10/10, came as a shock and a huge disappointment as I’m sure you can imagine, especially to our extremely hard working and conscientious cleaner. Thank you also for texting to say the large beautiful bouquet of flowers we sent you during your stay, as a gesture of good will for any inconvenience caused, was much appreciated. Unfortunately upon departure the property had been found to have been left in an unacceptable condition which therefore required extra cleaning and repair to damage. We have no issues with guests wanting to have birthday celebrations but would ask that as per the booking terms and conditions they leave the property in a similar condition to how they found it. We must confess that we are at a loss as to understand why “the quality was not as good as it should have been” when we are more used to comments such as those below including “stunning accommodation decorated to a very high standard and packed with everything you need for your holiday.” It seems perhaps in hindsight, that given the number of guests/visitors in your group, you may have chosen an unsuitable property for your birthday celebrations. We agree that our new en-suite is small but perfectly formed but when you consider that our next door neighbour’s bungalows only toilet is an outside one then having 2 bathrooms inside a holiday bungalow is the height of luxury to us.

From the first moment you come down the lane, you fall in love with Shillies. The view over the sea is stunning. As you open the door you realise that everything is perfectly clean ( even though its pet friendly) and ready to use. Everything has been thought of from Utensils in the Kitchen, outdoor pursuits, to even the TV entertainment and tonnes of games for those rainy days. We went in late April, and whilst cold had stunning blue skies, with only one day of choppy seas. So the views from the cottage where amazing. The inside is large enough for practicaities, but small enough to be cosy. And whilst the bedrooms are smallish, the beds are comfy, with warm white linen. The only draw back is the shops and eateries are in Egremont or St Bees 2 to 3 miles away. But once you have mastered the lane down to Caulderton, it's no hardship. The neighbours at Coulderton were so friendly and helped in finding local places to go. So all in all a great place to be. Throughly recommended.
