Surrounded by woodland

This semi-detached barn conversion is surrounded by woodland in the grounds of the owner’s home, which was formerly owned by a famous wildlife film maker and photographer. Wildlife abounds with good birdwatching, and a chicken keeping course is sometimes available at an extra cost. This holiday accommodation has a sitting-out area with a seat overlooking woodland and lies within the New Forest with open heaths and wild ponies. Miles of footpaths and a network of walking and cycling paths stretch from the door. Salisbury and Winchester cathedral cities are both a short drive. Bournemouth with its sandy beach, and Christchurch are both about ½ hour’s drive. Poole is within easy reach, and the market town of Ringwood is approximately 4 miles away. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Ground floor: Living/dining area/kitchen. Shower room with toilet. Steep stairs to first floor: 1 twin bedroom with low sloping ceiling.

Electric central heating, electricity and bed linen included. Freeview TV. Microwave. Sitting-out area with seat. Parking (1 car). No smoking. No children under 14 years.

Beautiful area to stay, cottage very cosy and had everything we could need. Polite and welcoming owner who greeted us and showed us around. We had a wonderful stay and would certainly go again. Only issue for us was the tub chairs they were quite uncomfortable so we couldn't really relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The view in the garden was spectacular and better than any t.v and we were privileged to see deer, foxes, squirrels and badgers everyday. The Red Shoot pub 5 mins walk was great too with fab food and a warm welcome. We went on wonderful walks, saw baby ponies and donkeys and just loved the freedom and relaxation.

The cottage was much smaller than we first thought and in particular, the stairs extremely steep, especially as we are getting on in years ourselves. The beds were very comfortable so we had a good nights sleep. The cottage is definitely not suitable for anyone elderly.

I think the photo of the cottage is very deceiving from the of the outside it looks a lot bigger then you actually get please see the picture I have uploaded this is the real size of the cottage not what is shown in the advertisement for the cottage, inside the 2 little chairs are very uncomfortable I think take out breakfast bar and put in a small sofa and 2 single beds are not ideal there's a few things that would make the cottage a lot better

Just what we needed , peaceful days and nights the only cobwebs were the ones that flew away from our minds as we totally relaxed! best bird table and viewing them from the windows was more like a hide plus home for the long weekend . Missing it already Caroline and Bernard Nov 2016

Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short as, whilst the location was perfect, cleanliness was a real issue. Cobwebs galore that looked like they had been there a very long while. The previous occupiers food in the sink!! carpets that didn't look like they'd been hoovered for a very long time, mouldy shower and hairs! And if there is tea, sugar etc in cupboard then make sure it is not out of date/mouldy. Such a shame as my daughter and I were so looking forward to our stay. If only the pics were true to form. Having said these things, it really wouldn't take much to make this a real gem of a holiday get away. Unfortunately for me, the unclean/fusty/dusty environment immediately affected my lungs which are recovering after a serious bout of pneumonia at the beginning of the year so we had to leave after the first night. Maybe I was just unlucky and The Sett has been beautifully presented for other visitors..... Such a shame.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We were disappointed to read your comments following your resent stay at The Sett. The property is thoroughly cleaned prior to each guests stay and is never filthy. There maybe a few cobwebs now and then but that is typical of a property set in such a rural environment. The description of the property is very accurate and the photos are a good illustration of The Sett. It is a shame that you didn't want to stay. If there were issues that affected you so much it would only have been fair to let us know ASAP so we would have had the opportunity to rectify something that was not to your satisfaction.

Sett is a really lovely little 'cabin' style getaway. Owners are friendly and there is a pub next door which serves great food. Located really close to Burley, which has gift shops , tea rooms and pubs. I would recommend any visitors who are older to check in before booking as getting to the bed rooms requires you to climb a ladder style stairs , I'm not sure older people could do this. Also in the living room, there are two single chairs (leather) to watch telly. But apart from This it's perfect for a couple who wanted to come & take the Opportunity to explore New Forest. Good value for money. Bathroom really nice & overall, a lovely stay.
