Description

With a games room and a heated indoor swimming pool, this Grade ll listed thatched barn conversion is surrounded by lovely countryside.

Within 3 miles of the beach, this Grade II listed, thatched former barn offers spacious, very comfortable accommodation and a good range of facilities, including its own indoor heated swimming pool and games room. Sympathetically converted and very well equipped, it has its own lawned area and patio, and is surrounded by lovely countryside. The ancient town of Bridport
(2 miles), once famous for its rope-making industry, was Thomas Hardy’s ‘Port Bredy’, and holds a twice-weekly market in its broad streets. At West Bay (3 miles) there are fishing trips and rowing boats for hire. At Seaton (6 miles), the lush Winniford Valley opens to an unspoilt beach of golden shingle, shelving steeply to sand at low tide. To the west of the beach, the Dorset Coast Path climbs to Golden Cap – at 626ft the highest point on the southern coast, with superb views along the coastline. The National Trust owns 2,000 acres of land here, offering 15 miles of footpaths for walkers. Ten miles away is the attractive seaside town of Lyme Regis. Jane Austen’s novel Persuasion gives a good picture of the town in the early 19th-century, and its history is displayed in the local museum. The ancient town of Dorchester (14 miles), built on the site of the Roman town, has much of historical interest: the remains of a Roman town house and a mosaic in Colliton Park, the old county court where the Tolpuddle Martyrs were tried, and Thomas Hardy’s study in the Dorset County Museum. Shops 2 miles.

Large hall/study with full-length windows. Dining room with additional TV and steps down to sun room. Spacious sitting-room with electric fire and French doors to patio and courtyard. Well-equipped modern fitted kitchen. Utility room. Cloakroom with toilet. First floor: Two pretty double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet, and one with en-suite shower room and toilet. Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Small twin bedroom with sloping ceiling. Second twin bedroom. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

It is a lovely large barn with plenty of space for living in. The kitchen is well stocked. Like previous people would have preferred to pay for heating and electricity in price. The whole barn was a little chilly which was not really acceptable. In fairness we were there during the mini beast from the east time! The pool was very well used.

We enjoyed the Retreat ,it had loads of room and was very warm The pool was a great amenitie and also super warm ! We felt the house was rather dated and as the bathrooms had carpet they were rather smelly! The Retreat is in a great location for the beaches etc

We had a lovely stay and it was so nice to be able to stay as one large extended family. Well equipt kitchen that made it easy to cater for us all. Having own pool was brilliant and water was warm. Loved the games room as the children were able to have their own space that became the 'Dad zone' once the kids were in bed.

A big rambling old barn conversion that needs a bit of tender loving care but a great place to relax in the dark and quiet. The only matter that really needs attention is the roadway that is very full of potholes and water.

The facilities and equipment at the Retreat were extensive and there is an amazing amount of room, both in the bedrooms and the lounges and kitchen. For an extended family staying there, the availability of 3 en-suite rooms plus another bathroom and downstairs cloakroom was great. The pool was well-maintained, a good size, warm and great for kids and adults. We appreciated the quiet location and the ability to walk to the pub with beaches and seaside amenties only a 10 minute drive away.

Our party were 5 adults and 5 children (ages 6 to 10). The youngsters loved the pool and the games room making life easy for the adults to enjoy their holiday. The house is very spacious, with several 'lounge' areas large and smaller, which we appreciated. We felt the cost of electricity should be included in the rental.

Plenty of space for ten people. Having the swimming pool inside and attached to the house was wonderful. The children also took full advantage of having the games room as well as the swimming pool. Very good location for walking and avoiding the summer traffic jams on the roads. Excellent beach Burton Bradstock with big National Trust carpark and good restaurant.

Superb venue for our large family holiday. Spacious, plenty of room for the kids to "hole up" and use the WiFi and the indoor swimming pool and games room is a winner. My only tip would be to make sure that you have plenty of pound coins for the electric meter (which is clearly stated in the booking form to be fair). About £5-£6 per day was the going rate for our family of eight. Location was excellent. Quiet farm village feel (which includes the daily visit of the local farm chickens) and just a 3 mile drive to Bridport and beach day trips. All in all, very happy that our party enjoyed the whole stay.

A very large and well appointed property with a splendid indoor swimming pool. Located within a quiet and very beautiful part of Dorset. The local pubs were very welcoming and served good food.

We had a very enjoyable week with our party of 10 and enjoyed the spaciousness of the house. It is very well equipped and clean but there were a few areas we thought could do with some attention. The shared bathroom really needs a proper shower and curtain installed: some hanging space in the small bedroom would be useful and the driveway really needs attention as there is great potential for damage to cars on entry and exit from the road. Even though we had good weather on all but one day we still needed the central heating which was very efficient. The outside sitting space was also much appreciated.
