I was there with 4 lads on a golfing break ideal place to stay with great food only 10 minutes walk away. We are planning to stay there again next year. The only down side was there I no central heating but I was informed that this was being installed soon. Overall great place.

Retreat Cottage was excellent, very friendly and welcoming feel. Excellent location for a short walk in to North Berwick which we did many times with 2 pushchairs (pavements all the way on quiet roads). In and around North Berwick has plenty to do for a nice and easy week with a young family. The only criticism we could give it is the hot water took a while to heat up after being turned on and couldn't be timed, the central heating which is going to be installed very soon should sort that out and it wasn't a massive problem anyway! Great cottage in a nice place, wish we were still there!

This cottage was booked because we were let down with another property at the last moment, so it was not our first choice. First of all the owner and her Mother (who lives in the adjoining property) were very nice people. On arrival we were greeted and shown around the property. The decor is very "traditional" and the furniture is in fitting with this converted barn. The owner said that the previous occupants had left that morning, but the property was cold and there was initially a fusty smell throughout. This, and a few other things suggested to us that it had been unoccupied for a while. Putting the heating on (individual electric heaters in each room) soon got rid of the smell, and we didn't notice it again throughout the stay. For our circumstances the four single beds were ideal, but it may not suit a traditional family. The lack of a real outdoor area (other than the owners garden) may make it unsuitable for families with children who would want to play outside. It is however enclosed, and the pond in the owners garden is securely covered. The property is apparently more often used by those playing golf at the various courses in the area. It would be ideal for this, especially with the four single beds. All in all an enjoyable stay in a clean and traditional property, that makes a potentially great break in a lovely area.
