The 22 acres & 3 (extremely small) lakes (tho' plenty of fish if you're an angler) was a disappointment. The Retreat is in the middle of a series of barbed-wire horse fields so you cannot walk far (15 mins at most round the whole lot). The property itself is really cute and spotless but the bed (which the owners are aware of ) is a cheap flimsy metal affair which squeaks with every move and the mattress is VERY uncomfortable). People who use the horse fields walk around the property exercising their dogs; and fishermen use the larger lake so there is limited privacy. (A child and a fisherman both appeared at the rear bedroom window - on separate occasions.) But the absolute killer is that the property is only a couple of hundred yards from an excruciatingly busy A road (even on Christmas Day). It is extremely noisy and cannot be walked along safely (ie if you want to go for a stroll or walk to the local pub you have to drive - and there are no 'grounds' to walk round. If you're expecting a base to go walking without having to rely on a car this is not for you. However, if you're a fisherman I should imagine it's a dream.

Looking a little less pristine, then it did a year ago ,which is a shame.

It was a lovely place to get away from it all. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet and the wild life, the fishing was good too. The kitchen facilities got a bit of getting use to but we did and everything was fine.

Perfection! I had a happy husband with all the fishing, the walks were fantastic, the sun shone every day, and for the kind of chilled out break that we wanted it was just perfect. The owners Tess and Gary were very friendly and helpful and didn't mind us barbequing round the fishing lakes.

Simply wonderful. A beautiful place to relax and enjoy mother nature at her finest. Couldn't have chosen a more wonderful place to stay. The owners very friendly and helpful. Most definitely going back.

The only reason I gave the location a 9 out of 10 is because you can hear the road traffic when outside on the decking area but not inside. This did not detract from our enjoyment of The Retreat in any way but others should be made aware. We hope to return to The Retreat later this year as the position is ideal for visiting the coast and country walks. Excellent. Thank you

Loved the Retreat, the accommodation was spotlessly clean. Lovely peaceful place enjoyed by both of us and our dog... My husband enjoyed the fishing.

although we enjoyed our stay at the retreat it was our second stay and liked it enough to return we still find the kitchen facilities inadequate, we just managed , there is a portable double hob but only one ring working which I guess matches as there is only one saucepan, knives were blunt ,no oven only a combo microwave oven ,if you can manage as we did great . The position & outlook are lovely and relaxing my husband enjoyed the fishing , we would return.
