We really love The Owlery and always look forward to our next visit. We've been coming for years and it is perfect every time. Always spotless and with everything you need for a great stay. Jacqui, the owner, is one of life's gems - so friendly and down to earth. The Owlery is very well placed for some great trips; close to Scarborough, Whitby and Pickering with the North Yorkshire moors on the doorstep. Sawdon is a lovely quiet place so it is easy to relax and unwind. We're already planning another stay!

This is the second visit to the Owlery and we would thoroughly recommend it to other like minded people. We bring our dog and enjoy walking so it is in an ideal location for beaches, forest and moors. The cottage is very cosy and extremely well equipped, providing a great relaxing base.

I often find 1 bedroomed properties a little cramped but this was by no means the case with The Owlery. The layout was excellent and the furnishings and equipment all that I could want for my stay.

We had a lovely week at The Owlery. From the welcome that we had to the day we left we were made to feel at home. Joaqui, the owner, and the neighbours went out of their way to help us as we were new to the area. The cottage itself is very well equipped, clean and comfortable..especially the bed! The location, for us, was perfect as we wanted to explore the moors and do the seaside stuff. We also wanted to visit York to meet up with friends. There are also some fantastic pubs, cafes and farm restaurants. We would certainly go back and will recommend The Owlery to family and friends.

The property was fine and the lady owner very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the pub /restaurant which was only 100yards from the Owlery was closed for holidays - no warning or advice on their website. Even Jacqui, the owner of the Owlery was surprised. The close proximity to an eatery was an essential for us as my wife is recovering from an operation and has limited mobility. This was one of the reasons we booked The Owlery and I am sure Jacqui was just as disappointed as we were. The property gives good access to walks in the countryside which I an my two dogs took advantage of.

This is a very nice, comfortable cottage which is very well equipped. The lounge made a super base for Winter evenings with the brilliant wood burner which was so easy to use & very warm! The kitchen had just about everything you could think of & was very clean. The bed was large & very comfortable and there was even an electric blanket!! The owner was really friendly and welcoming & was local so if there had been a problem (which there wasn't), she could have come to assist very readily. Our visit was over Christmas week and we were asked if we would like decorations. These made the place very charming and helped to set the scene for a festive week. I found the location lovely - very peaceful & 'away from it all' yet near enough to local, attractions for them to be within easy reach. My reason for knocking one mark off the price (which was very reasonable compared to other similar properties at Christmas), is that we got through a bag of logs each day/night and while one bag was provided free of charge, had we not had an alternative source at hand, this would have bumped up the overall cost. I think the burner was a necessity rather than a luxury each night. In terms of my overall rating of 7/10, there are two personal reasons for this: the bathroom, which was fine, was not up to the same standard as the rest of the accommodation. It was a bit on the cold side & the bath/shower were showing signs of age. Secondly, and this is the only reason why we would not return ourselves, though would happily recommend to anyone else who is not bothered by this: there was nowhere within the property from which you could look out of a window onto the garden. This is due to the layout of the architecture (a barn conversion). The windows and French doors all look onto the courtyard with the garden out of view. In the Summer, however, tables and chairs are provided so this should not be such an issue. I just like to look out onto a view when I'm on holiday since I don't have one at home! (I did say it was a personal reason!)
