Absolutely amazing cottage for a reasonable price. From the moment we stepped in we loved everything. It was perfectly equipped. It has an enclosed garden which was fab for the dogs and the cottage was very comfortable. Pictures just don't do it justice. Sofa and dining table in kitchen area and wood burner in living room, very cosy. We will certainly book again, nothing to criticise at all. Thank you!

We loved this cottage, especially the views, ease of reaching various local points of interest and the animals at the farm - the dogs in particular were very entertaining. A few additions would make the cottage better: a plug in the bathroom sink, tea towels and oven gloves (only a hand towel provided in the kitchen), and the fridge switched on in advance of arrival. The bathroom lights were not working when we arrived but this was sorted after a couple of days. The Samson Inn in Gilsland is good for beer and food - a pleasant walk of about an hour or a short car journey. Overall we recommend The Ostlers for a relaxing and refreshing break.

A nice cottage but definitely need a car as it is nearly 2 miles to the nearest village (didn't see any shops in the village but there is a pub and coffee shop) and 5 miles to the nearest town of Haltwhistle where there are two supermarkets. We were the first family in the cottage after a year of it being let out as a long term rental and as such the kitchen needs additional basic equipment such as oven gloves, whisk, measuring jug, kitchen roll, kitchen scissors, matches for the wood burning stove. Also some parts of the cottage are in need of a make-over and redecoration. It is very quiet on the farm (apart from the pigs) but the newborn lambs and calves were a treat. It is well located for walkers and historians being very close to many of the milecastles and excavated parts of Hadrian's Wall and the Roman occupation in this area.
