The Olde Cartlodge is the best self catering we have stayed in in a scenic location spotlessly clean and very relaxing we would recommend The Olde Cartlodge to anybody who wanted to stay in the area. Gill and Dave made us very welcome and were very good with all the local information.

Really nice, well priced given it was half term, good rural location and nice village, albeit only walking distance with small children over the fields. Very friendly.

Wonderful friendly owners live next to their lovely cottage which beautiful views across the fields. Easy to walk into village across the fields or by using the local paths. There were comfortable beds, warm under floor heating and spacious rooms including a kitchen open to the dining/ reception room making it a good choice for a family get together. The kitchen was well equipped, just missing a dishwasher (a clothes washer was in its place) or a side draining rack to help with the washing up. Both ensuite bathrooms were a good size with powerful showers, just beware that the main bedroom's shower is not thermostatic and can turn vey hot and cold when other taps are used in the lodge. Tea towels were provided for the kitchen and two big fluffy towels were provided for each guest, but you might want to bring a couple of small hand towels to use by everybody in the ensuites. We had a lovely time and would book agasin if we were visiting Essex.

This is our second visit to the old cart lodge & hopefully it won't be our last. We had a lovely week in a lovely location with lovely hosts-- & not forgetting Indie of course. Would recommend this property to anyone. Thank you both.

A spacious and quite unique barn conversion. Three generous sized bedrooms and modern facilities including a walk in wet room. All maintained very well to a high standard of cleanliness. Underfloor heating throughout. Stunning views of the countryside. Location is very quiet but Castle Hedingham is a short walk away although you have to travel a bit further for local amenities like supermarkets. Lots of places to visit and plenty of country walks. Lovely cottage but some way from everything. We used two ground floor bedrooms, one a four poster bed ensuite plus TV and small single room ensuite, no TV had no window to open or see out of, it did have a 12 foot pole and a velux window at the end of a 'chute' and made the room very claustrophobic for me personally. Scenery lovely and very quiet. Would suit walkers, hikers but anyone wanting shops, and nearby attractions will be sorely disappointed. The cottage is equipped to a high standard, beautifully decorated throughout. Beware there is no dishwasher or tumble dryer: other than towel rails there is no where to dry anything unless you have good weather and use the washing line. Overall not for me but would recommend for walkers and those wanting the countryside on their doorsteps. I wish the owners all the very best and thanks for their kindness.

We have stayed in many cottages over the past 25 years. This was the best.

An excellent location and initially very impressed with the cottage, however the noise of planes, especially Saturday, meant no sleep until they stopped at midnight. No tumble dryer or dishwasher, uncomfortable seating and a spare bed which creaked so badly it couldn't be used. The tv remote was all but useless and the tv had to be operated from the set controls. On the plus side the cottage was very clean and attractive and the owners very pleasant. Also super view from the lounge. Nothing is perfect in life and I would still choose to stay here because it is so well placed to enjoy the attractions of the area.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments ,we do take everything on board . Unfortunately the property is near the airport , I am sorry this affected your stay and you wasn’t aware of that. We looked at the remote control and it is now fully working . Regarding the bed, when you pull it out and then raise it higher it no longer creeks. I am glad you would return, again thank you for your comments and we hope you stay with us again in the near future.

Only 1 niggle, poor wifi. Other than that everything was absolutely amazing. The owners are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Well Done Dave and Jill, a winner! Thanks.
