Description

This larger, period holiday property is in an ideal location for exploring Sussex with beaches and historic Cinque ports.

Built in 1820, this elegant, classic Grade ll listed, adjoining Georgian family home retains many original features. It is an ideal holiday destination for extended families and groups of friends, just 5 miles from the Cinque port town of Rye. The stylish accommodation is spread over three floors. There is an open plan drawing room and dining room, with a welcoming fireplace, a games room with pool table for some after dinner entertainment or chilly day recreation, complete with wood-burning stove! The light and airy conservatory is also a congenial place in which to relax and catch up with the Sunday papers. When the weather is fine, take full advantage of the mature gardens spread out to the side and front of The Old Vicarage and enjoy a glass of wine, or a picnic in the summerhouse. The attractive terrace also loans itself to alfresco dining. From the upper floors there are views across the beautiful countryside with sheep filled fields and apple orchards, with Rye in the distance and even glimpses of the sea! There is a CAMRA award-winning pub which serves good food, a local shop and a public park with playground within walking distance, and footpaths close by. Visit the cobbled, medieval town of Rye, 5 miles, and explore the art galleries, tea rooms and antique shops. There is also a leisure centre. Winchelsea, described by Kipling as a ‘port of stranded pride’ with distant sea glimpses, offers hidden wine cellars beneath the wide streets to discover, once embroiled in the town’s smuggling past!. Winchelsea beach and Rye Nature Reserve are great for bird spotting, and Camber offers miles of golden sand dunes. Vineyards and National Trust properties and gardens abound. Rye station connects with Ashford and London St Pancras station, and also mainland Europe. There are local buses to Hastings and Rye. There is a popular pub/restaurant nearby and it is recommended that large parties pre-book to avoid disappointment. Beach 3½ miles. Shop 2 miles, pub 440 yards and restaurant ½ mile.

Perfect place for a family get together for 11 of us plus one dog. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, very sociable seating areas in kitchen, around the dining table, sitting room and sun room. Attractively decorated inside and with a beautiful garden outside. We enjoyed walks from the door, including a short one to the local pub. Also a short drive to the sea and the pretty town of Rye. Highly Recommended!

We stayed here for my grandsons birthday,my 65th birthday and Mothers Day,four generations. The Old vicarage exceeded our expectations,it was spacious, clean, comfortable ,with a dream kitchen, that was well equipped. The bedrooms were mostly en suite and we all found the one which suited our needs. The location meant that some could commute,or come and go as needed ,less than a two hour drive. I really couldn't fault it,from the open fire, games room, utility and pantry plus lovely grounds and parking.

We had a fantastic week staying at this lovely house and it was perfect for our needs. It has 6 good sized rooms for 12 adults, with everyone commenting on how comfortable the bed matresses are. Note that the 2 large rooms upstairs have limited space in the ensuite due to height restrictions. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything we needed present. The house is also very nicely furnished with lots of lovely little touches everywhere. The welcome basket was welcomed with an initial supply of bread, milk, etc and red and white wine. The house was nice and warm despite being winter and very cold outside during February. The Queens Head pub down the road is just 5 mins walk away, serving excellent food and drink. Be sure to book though as it gets busy everyday. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the cottage. Not only is it ideal for a large party but is an excellent base for exploring the area. We would definately recommended it and hope to be back another year.

Our yearly family gathering of 10 guests were without exception very happy with our choice this year as The Old Vicarage exceeded all our expectations. There were a few of us vying for the beautiful Conservatory, which was so comfortable and full of charm, whilst the rest gathered next store on the huge sofas (the chair and footrest had my name on it) in the evenings. The bedrooms were decorated beautifully with very comfortable beds and great views, especially from the second floor. The Kitchen was very well equipped and perfectly set out for such a large group to use and we had an amazing welcome pack waiting for us upon arrival ( Thank you Diane and Hugh) The front drive and garden was fully secure for our Husky to roam around in. I highly recommend The Old Vicarage as it ticked every box, and we will be returning.

Just had five days at the Old Vicarage - the owners were extremely helpful and made our arrival very easy and comfortable - a bit of a trek to the bedrooms on the second floor but if your healthy it should not be a problem - we enjoyed out stay very much and would not hesitate to recommend it five minutes walk from the property is the Queens Head public house - definitely not to be missed

We had a wonderful time here for our mothers and daughters long weekend. The kitchen is very well equipped which was perfect for us and the hamper was a lovely touch. Lots to do and see in Rye and the beautiful beach is just down the road.

We were a group of eleven adults who fir comfortably in the Old Vicarage. There is plenty of common areas indoors to spend time in case of inclement weather. The location is perfect for country walks and relaxing in the local pub. A car is the best option to get out and about in the surrounding area but the local bus service is not too infrequent. The owner is extremely easy to work worth ... accessible, responsive and genuinely nice. The Old Vicarage is the perfect home away from home and we will definitely return!

A really lovely, large holiday house with great bedrooms and space for a large group. Close to the lovely village of Winchelsea and town of Rye. Camber dunes and shingle beaches also close by. Only 2 showers (one ensuite) which caused some queuing for a large group of adults/teens but understandable given the layout of such a historic property.
