Description

Delightful accommodation for a family with Durlston Country Park and Monkey World close by.

The Old Telephone Exchange, as the name suggests, used to be the old telephone exchange for the village and is built in Purbeck stone, typical of the region. The stunning village of Corfe Castle is dominated by the ruined castle and stands at the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. This detached holiday property makes a delightful holiday base at any time of year. Other family attractions include a model village and interactive exhibition, the village museum, a steam railway and many interesting shops. Corfe Common is found just on the edge of the village with the Purbeck Way walking route passing through it to reach Chapman’s Pool and the South West Coast Path. The village is constructed almost completely from the local grey Purbeck limestone, and around the village square, there is a small collection of shops, a post office, church and pubs, all a short stroll from the property. The Jurassic coastline is a short drive away, with the famous Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. The town of Swanage, 7 miles, is a seaside town with its sandy beach, boat trips, Durlston Country Park and Steam Railway. Monkey World and the Tank Museum are also close by. Shop 750 yards, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Beautifully converted cottage with everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Bathroom facilities could do with updating and would not cope with more than two people. Would certainly stay again.

Nicely designed cottage layout and decoration. Provided with wrong key box code so not a relaxed welcome. A lack of washing up liquid, sponges and hand towel in kitchen area. Main shower is fantastic but screen leaks so left with a wet floor everyday. Plus there's mould covering part of the screen. There's no space to put 6 bath towels and 6 hand towels in bathroom - but there aren't any hooks or racks either in house - the best we found was a coat hanger or back of dining chair to try and air the wet towels.

Our concern was how cold we were, in the sitting area. There was a air vent which was blowing in off the street.we were wrapped in car rugs to keep warm. It was a very cold week outside ,a bit of a challenge.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you so much for staying at The Old Telephone Exchange. The building does have full central heating with a thermostat in the hall to control the temperature and is on almost all day during the winter months to ensure our guests are as comfortable as possible. We do also have an electric heater for those that require extra heat on those very cold winter days. As for the air vent, the building is quite an old building with very thick solid walls and requires an air flow through to ensure no damp is found in the house. The vent is very small and discrete so should not usually cause a noticeable draft.
