Delightful accommodation for a family with Durlston Country Park and Monkey World close by.

The Old Telephone Exchange, as the name suggests, used to be the old telephone exchange for the village and is built in Purbeck stone, typical of the region. The stunning village of Corfe Castle is dominated by the ruined castle and stands at the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck. This detached holiday property makes a delightful holiday base at any time of year. Other family attractions include a model village and interactive exhibition, the village museum, a steam railway and many interesting shops. Corfe Common is found just on the edge of the village with the Purbeck Way walking route passing through it to reach Chapman’s Pool and the South West Coast Path. The village is constructed almost completely from the local grey Purbeck limestone, and around the village square, there is a small collection of shops, a post office, church and pubs, all a short stroll from the property. The Jurassic coastline is a short drive away, with the famous Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. The town of Swanage, 7 miles, is a seaside town with its sandy beach, boat trips, Durlston Country Park and Steam Railway. Monkey World and the Tank Museum are also close by. Shop 750 yards, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

Our concern was how cold we were, in the sitting area. There was a air vent which was blowing in off the street.we were wrapped in car rugs to keep warm. It was a very cold week outside ,a bit of a challenge.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you so much for staying at The Old Telephone Exchange. The building does have full central heating with a thermostat in the hall to control the temperature and is on almost all day during the winter months to ensure our guests are as comfortable as possible. We do also have an electric heater for those that require extra heat on those very cold winter days. As for the air vent, the building is quite an old building with very thick solid walls and requires an air flow through to ensure no damp is found in the house. The vent is very small and discrete so should not usually cause a noticeable draft.

Great cottage in great location. Lovely modern decor and well equipped with excellent wifi which is increasingly important for youngsters and their gadgets. .Just about big enough for 4 adults and two 8 year olds for a short break. Only very minor niggle was that there was only one bathroom which is tricky when two families are trying to get out early in the morning. Location on main busy road through Corfe Castle but there is lovely safe and secure private terrace for children to play outside. Altogether a very nice cottage for a long weekend.

Great location, lovely cottage. The only negative was the cars parked in the road outsi de made it difficult to get onto the driveway with our own car. Also these cars came and went quite late at night, which led us to believe that they were from somewhere like a hotel. The location was great for what we wanted and we thought the property was just right.

The cottage was comprehensively equipped and the decor/lighting very good. It was most convenient for all the places we wished to visit and Corfe Castle village was most attractive. All-in-all a lovely place to stay.

The property is in a very attractive village - within easy walking distance of pubs and shops - and reasonably well-placed for touring Dorset. However, the traffic noise from the nearby A351 was intrusive at times. Many of the comments in the guests book spoke of a 'home from home', but we beg to differ. Although the kitchen was well-equipped (e.g. a full set of saucepans, of matching cutlery and glassware) the lighting was very poor, and there were not enough replacement bin-liners. In the bathroom the basin hot tap was loose and there was no light over the mirror to compensate for the feeble overhead lighting (no window therefore no natural light). The towels provided were thin and skimpy, such as we would not dream of using at home (see my earlier remark) and we were provided with the bare minimum each. Parking space: good. Shame there was no coffee table or similar in the lounge.

Good location. Nice furniture. Downstairs bathroom and double room smelt of damp. The heating was not on, which is not really fair, considering that we paid a premium for the cottage. I expect to be able to turn the heating on when I feel cold and not have to ring the owners.

The house was well presented and had a good supply of children's activities. Unfortunately we had a very wet week, there was no where to hang wet coats, it would be easy to put some hooks up under the stairs. The heating did not come on even though the house was cold and damp, we had the dehumidifier on for most of the week, even so the plaster round the patio doors was wet. Much of the china was chipped and could do with renewing. We only had one set of keys for most of the week until we found a second set in a pot on top of a unit in the living room. Possibly if the sun had shone the house would have created a better impression.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Very comfortable . Could have done with another toilet. Would go back again and this is the second time we have visited.

It was a last minute booking so we accepted that there was only one bathroom. Two is better for a family - there were three adults and two children. The upstairs bedroom was in the loft and my husband kept bumping into the ceiling at the sides of the room. For this reason he would not like to stay there again. Access in and out of the drive was tricky because of parked cars opposite all day. The property was expensive considering its size. We have stayed in larger properties in Corfe Castle for much the same price.

We found the cottage seating inadequate and uncomfortable. We also found the cottage extremely cold with no internal way of adjusting the heating.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you so much for staying at The Old Telephone Exchange. The property does comply with the Visit England guidelines for provision of seating for 6 persons. There is a large kitchen table with 6 seats in the kitchen and in the lounge area, there is a 3 seater sofa, a 2 seater sofa, a single chair as well as an additional small cushion seat. As for the heating, this is on a timer which can be overridden. If you had contacted us during your stay on the numbers provided in the cottage we could have explained how the heating worked and made your stay more comfortable.

A most enjoyable long weekend spent with children/granddaughter revisiting places we had been to when children were young.
