Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Log burning stove made it very cosy. Everhot stove a challenge but successfully cooked full Christmas dinner. Owners very helpful. Nearby town of Ashbourne has good local amenities. It would be good to visit in summer and enjoy the outdoor patio area and games area. Duncombe Arms was preferred pub that we could walk to.

What a lovely house and area! We had a lovely time in this beautiful house set in a very pretty and quiet village just outside the peak district. We were lucky and had snow which just topped off our trip perfectly. The owners had thought of everything and we had a very comfortable and relaxing stay. We would highly recommend the house.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Old Smithy. It was a homely place and we had the fire roaring in the evenings. It was perfect for a reunion with old friends and our toddler slept well in the travel cot and loved the playhouse outside. Although there are no amenities on the doorstep that suited us as we were well prepared and took nice autumnal walks to the pub and the garden centre for sustenance.

Extremely well equipped, comfortable, peaceful and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Lovely wood-burner. Our toddler was well catered for. Perhaps one of the en-suites could be improved by the fitting of a shower curtain and wall-mounting the shower itself. Local resident wasn't too happy with one of our cars being parked in the road outside his/her property by the Reading Room.

What a fantastic time we had, 6 ladies on a girls weekend away. The cottage is a really comfortable home from home and we had everything we needed. It was clean, well appointed and very pretty. It’s in a very quiet location which suited us. Would definitely stay again.
