Description

A rare example of a Grade II listed school house, close to the coast and less than a mile from Pendower and Carne beach.

This unique, thatched, former school house (circa 1812) with many original features and landscaped gardens lies in the heart of this pretty Cornish village. Grade II listed and converted to a beautiful holiday home, it stands detached (but has a built-in, self-contained, occupied annexe with separate entrance via communal porch). There is the original stone fireplace and a 50" TV in the living room, and a 32" TV in the master bedroom. The well-equipped kitchen/dining room benefits from an inglenook fireplace and a picture window. Boasting panoramic views over Veryan, famous for its historic roundhouses, it is excellently located to explore the picturesque Roseland Peninsula, less than a mile from Pendower and Carne beach, one of the finest sandy Cornish beaches (8th best British beach according to the Sunday Times of 5th July 2015), and provides a wonderful setting for dog walking. Portloe has a harbour where crabs, lobster and fish can be bought for a beach barbecue. Shop 100 yards, pub 50 yards.

The Cottage is beautifully presented and well situated in a wonderfully friendly village, I would not hesitate to recommend both for the ideal relaxing holiday.

This is lovely cottage in a great location but it needs a lot of TLC, the pillows are dirty when you look under the pillow slips and they all need renewing. The whole cottage needs a deep clean as we found dust everywhere and the lounge had a smell of dogs, we had to get air freshener's to take away the smell which was inbedded in the furniture. The small sink in the main bedroom has a self over it which does allow room to wash without hitting your head. We were not told about the building work going on next door which disturbed us early morning and when it's finished it will overlook the garden. Carers would come into the annex to look after the lady who lives there, a curtain needs to be put up at the door into the main cottage as the carer can see into the lounge.

Such a shame this lovely old cottage was let down by uncomfortable furniture and by not being cleaned properly. Dirty windows, dogs hairs and rubbish found under the beds ! We had to clean the microwave before we could use it, and we were left with two bath towels between four guests. Washing machine was left full of towels which did not look clean, they were still there when we left ! Very disappointing!!

Response on behalf of the owner:- The furniture is good quality and in style with our property. This guest only booked for 2 visitors and we prepared accordingly we believe another 2 people also stayed and the booking conditions do state to let us know in advance if the party size changes.

The house was very comfortable. We found it easier and safer to reverse into the drive; it would have been helpful to have been advised of this. The stairs to the first floor are very steep and only have one hand-rail. This was an issue for my elderly mother and, again, it would have been helpful if this had been noted in the description of the house on your website. The lights fused on the first time of turning them on and we had to disturb the elderly resident of the property to rectify the matter. Luckily we had tried the lights in the afternoon and so we were able to deal with the matter before it was dark!

The cottage itself was great, however the shared entrance spoiled the holiday to some extent. Visitors to the annex were daily and noisy and the entrance to the cottage lacked privacy due to the glazed door having only a net curtain. Such a shame as the cottage is beautiful.
