Cottage not to cleanest standard at all we had to clean grill before we used it. We ate out a lot !! bed linen not up to standard rugs dirty few things not working or updating required. Overall damp smell especially in bathroom and porch. Came home on thursday morning.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- We have had some water ingress but had to wait until the cottage had an empty week before we had the roof fixed which is now done. We are waiting for our next empty week at the end of the month when we have scheduled the internal repairs and redecoration. We agreed with our representative on site some weeks ago that the damp was not so bad that we should inconvenience all parties by cancelling existing bookings. We did explain to guests when we could that we were sorry there was some minor damp. We always leave a welcome pack of milk, bacon, sausages, butter, bread and wine. To compensate, we have been leaving an extra bottle of wine rather than cancelling the booking. We’ve not had complaints about cleaning in the past and can only apologise if it was not up to scratch on this occasion.

Photos need updating on this cottage as the garden is much more overgrown and even though there is a river view the rest of the garden needs some improvement. The cottage was well stocked with food in the fridge, but the kitchen was in need of TLC some cupboards full of old food items, chairs had paint on them. Very low bed in main bedroom and wardrobe door with no door handles on. Some windows had the seals blown and could not see out of them properly. The porch was full of cobwebs and needed a good clean.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Unfortunately, our residence the Old Mill, which is next to the Old Mill Cottage, was flooded on 5th December 2015 during Storm Desmond. We moved into the cottage for a year and, as a result of all the work going on at the house, our gardener left us. We accept that the garden does need some attention but we will attend to this once we have some empty weeks. With regard to the food items, we leave what we believe are within dates but confirm that we will review again what is there. We do always leave some initial fresh provisions and a bottle of wine for arrival. We accept the bed is low but have never had a complaint before and the cupboard style does not have conventional door handles. With regard to cobwebs, the cottage is in the country, and they return very quickly after they have been cleaned. We accept some of the criticism although we still feel the cottage is good value particularly in view of its location. However, we are disappointed that your experience did not meet your expectations. In mitigation, we would say that our house is still being restored some 21 months after the flood and it has created ongoing problems for us. Prior to the flood we have had very few complaints over a long number of years.

We had great holiday with many side trips to Stirling with the castle and the Wallace Monument, the Safari Park, Falkirk, Loch Lomond, Glasgow and and and. Good place to walk the dog in the morning and the terrace area is brilliant with its view across the Forth.

Quiet, tranquil location. Enjoyed coffee on the patio, looking past a field of wildflowers to the Forth River. Appreciated the welcoming groceries in the fridge, just what was needed for a traditional Scottish breakfast.

Quaint and quirky cottage close to the river Forth. Peaceful location near to motorway and Stirling. Friendly owners who generously left a bottle of wine and food to start our holiday off. Lovely patio area with views over the river to the hills beyond. Really relaxing.

Nice touch that there was enough food provided in the fridge that we did not have to head out food shopping on the first night we arrived. Thank you for that!! Perfect location for our needs and it was great that we could take our two dogs with us. Lots of dog walking opportunities nearby. Comfy beds and all furniture up to standard. Would recommend to others to stay here. It is rural but that means it is extremely peaceful and we had a busy and yet restful holiday.

We booked this for a week for three people and found the cottage comfortable and convenient. We were able to reach most attractions and major cities with ease.

Lovely cottage in a good location. Nice decked area to sit and watch the wildlife and the river. Spent lots of time seal spotting on our walks. Lots to see and do in the area and very quick access onto the major roads to go sightseeing. The dogs loved it!

A great holiday for my son and I.Waking every morning to look out on to Stirling Castle. Sitting on the terrace area surrounded by a beautiful garden and watching the the birds on the river. We were visited several times a day by a heron. Nearby the safari park and Stirling Castle to visit. Further afield Bo'ness steam train, the Kelpies , the Falkirk Wheel and not forgetting the lovely surrounding countryside. A welcoming pack on arrival all added to a lovely week's holiday.
