Comfortable clean cottage in a good location. The four double bedrooms are of good sizes and all can take a cot. The bunk bedroom was a little cramped due to a third bed but was fine for our two under 5s and it was directly opposite one of the double bedrooms so the kids could easily be seen at night from our bed. There was a problem with one of the toilets when we arrived and the owner arranged a plumber as soon as we told her so excellent service there. If we were back this way again we would definitely book this cottage.

We were a group of 12, families with children, staying for the new year. The gatehouse was lovely, had everything we needed and was very spacious. Enough for us all to do in the local area and l would highly recommend the spa we used at the hotel nearby. Would definitely return. The house is lovely and perfect for any occasion.

This was the second time we stayed at the old gate house Pennal , we had a lovely weekend and the house is very nice, well equipped but a few little things are in need of attention eg. Broom to sweep the floors down stairs , the door in the children's room wouldn't open and the upstairs bathroom needs a better shower and a shower screen .We all missed not having the swimming pool facility , the first time we visited we had excess to the pool which was lovely as our grand children where with us The location is lovely lots of thing to do even in the winter .

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Glad to hear you enjoyed your second visit and thank you for giving me a call on your way home to let me know you had a problem with the door in the children’s bedroom; the latch had broken and it has now been renewed. We don’t have a broom, but there is a Henry hoover and a dustpan & brush available there for you to use should you need them. With regards to the use of the onsite swimming pool(s), it is a shame but unfortunately it is totally out of my hands due to a change of management/rules brought into effect Nov 17. The same has happened at the Scottish Macdonald resorts. However, all the other facilities on site are still fully available, as before, such as pitch & putt, tennis, squash, snooker etc. etc. Indeed, both the swimming pools are still available for guests to use, but now only as part of a spa package as described in the property description. I am pleased to say that this has proved very popular so far with our adult guests, particularly with a meal & discount included in the price for the day. For the children, whilst not on site, there is a lovely indoor heated pool, with the additional benefit of a large slide/flume plus a toddler pool (inexpensive and owned by Freedom Leisure) 5 mins drive away in Machynlleth and, of course, as you know, in the spring/summer months, there are the beautiful sandy beaches/seaside close by in Aberdovey in the opposite direction.

This house would have been wonderful if the lounge area had been big enough for all 7 of us! Goodness knows what would happen if the place was full! The furniture in the lounge was very uncomfortable and kept falling apart so we had to keep reassembling it! All double beds thar were used need decent mattresses on them, especially the master bedroom!! I would book again but only if there was less people in our group!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your comments following your stay. I'm both surprised and disappointed you didn't find the accommodation big enough for your party of 7. I have to say I am rather perplexed by this, bearing in mind the majority of our bookings are parties of 10 - 12 guests throughout the year, as you can see by other comments left. In addition, photos showing the lounge/seating area are very clearly shown on the website to assist you when booking. With regards to the sofa, it is, in fact, only 6 months old and can easily seat 12 and parties both directly before and after your stay did not had any issues with it together with several guests stating that with their parties of 10 + "space wasn't an issue". As you know, both my mobile number and the housekeeper's number are on hand there for you to let us know if you have any problems during your stay and neither of us heard from you. The mattresses have also been replaced recently (and, again, I'm rather mystified as the master bedroom mattress being the most recent) and, as you can see from the comments, they have never caused any issues with regards to their comfort, although I do appreciate everyone has different and personal preferences when it comes to mattress comfort.

A massive thank you to Julia (owner) for a fantastic stay. There were 10 of us and space wasn't an issue, the cottage was well equipped and in an ideal location for us to use as a base. A nice bonus to have the leisure pass as this was well used.

Lovely place to stay. Plenty of room, house well equipped. Only reason I wouldn't go back would be location as it was quite far from the places we wanted to visit

The house is really nice but sat right on a busy road, very noisy. With holiday makers coming into Plas Talgarth every other minute. There's an outhouse in the garden with orange tape all over it saying "Danger", seriously what is that about?

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Glad to read you describe the house as really nice, although obviously very disappointed to receive such a low score which is at odds with previous one(s) left. I have to say none of our guests have ever complained about cars turning into Plas Talgarth "every other minute" as you put it, as you can see from previous reviews. Admittedly, it may be slightly busier on a Saturday at times (which is the arrival/departure day for the majority of cottages), but it is a small complex tastefully set amidst acres of beautiful parkland/countryside and so cars in and out is relative. With regards to the tiny old derelict barn in the corner of the garden (dating back to the 1700's!) I haven't ever had a complaint about it being there and, with due respect, I would have thought it obvious that we have sensibly put regulation health & safety building "danger/keep out" signs/fenced it off, both for our own peace of mind and our guests' safety, until it's converted at a later date.

An interesting property with lots of pros and a few cons! A highlight was the complimentary use of the excellent swimming pools, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, a short walk up the hill. The house has spacious sleeping accommodation with plenty of bathrooms. There were good-sized eating areas both inside and out with use of a barbecue. The kitchen was well equipped, although we would suggest taking your own kitchen knives. We found the sitting area somewhat cramped for a house for 12, with limited floor space for young children to play. There was no phone signal and unreliable internet.

We loved the fact that the garden was enclosed as we knew the children were safe. The swimming pool, staff and spa were excellent . The views were lovely and the cottage catered gorgeous all of our needs xx

The house had space for our party of seven but a maximum of 12 people would be cramped. The sofas in the lounge are well worn and need replacing. The kitchen equipment and crockery need additional items and the downstairs bedroom is well below the standard of those upstairs. The location and access to the Plas Talgarth facilities is a very positive feature.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. With regards to your comment regarding the sofa, unfortunately, it seems as if a cleaning product or similar has been inadvertently sprayed along the top of the back cushions causing a reaction and for the material to "bubble". We are aware of this as I saw this personally when I visited 2 weeks ago and immediately made my insurers aware - their visit is scheduled for Tues 2nd May 2017 in the morning to investigate how this damage has occurred. With regards to your other comments re lack of crockery etc., I totally replaced all the crockery and glass wear (enough for 12) myself in readiness for the busy holiday season approaching during the same visit there only a fortnight ago! Therefore, with the above points, together with your disappointing score of 5 (which is as you can see totally at odds with the previous score and comments of 10 and 9 from preceding guests) I'm afraid I'm at a loss as how to reply further.
