The Old Forge was probably one of the best cottages we have stayed in. It was cosy, but spacious at the same time, and was excellently placed for touring around National Trust and English Heritage sites and the like. The beds were comfortable, it was well equipped and although we did not use the wood burner as the weather was so mild and we were not back until late most evenings one imagines that that lit would make the place even cosier. We were actually able to sit outside once but in the summer it would be a delight. The owners were friendly and very helpful without being obtrusive - and the lovely welcome pack was much appreciated. There was a little traffic noise, but most certainly nothing really noticeable or disturbing as the cottage is set back from the road - and in any case a minimum of research would establish the fact that there might be some. We can recommend the Bradford Arms next door - there was no noise from that at all - where we had two excellent meals. It is certainly somewhere we would return to if looking for a place in the area.

Lovely cottage excellent location everything we wanted 😊 A bit surprised that the toilet seat in upstairs bathroom was broken and had been taped up! Guessing that this may have been recent and hadn't had time to replace as attention to detail elsewhere was second to none. Friendly obliging owners!

A lovely cottage, very comfortable, ideal for 2 couples. Pub next door an added bonus, very welcoming and good food. The only criticism we had is in need of more regularly used crockery ... only 2 wine glasses, 1 pint glass and a brandy glass.... didn't spoil a wonderful stay tho... would definitely recommend for a get away

My husband daughter and myself stayed from28th December to the 3rd of January. We had a great welcome from Colin and Wendy, very friendly and helpful. We appreciated the welcome pack, (carrot cake was lovely as was the wine), and that they had left up the Christmas tree and decorations. Everything we needed was provided. Beds very comfortable had the best nights sleep we have had in ages. We would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to anyone. We will be returning but this time in the better weather, we will then have the opportunity to sit outside and admire the fabulous views.

We have come back from a week staying in The Old Forge. The cottage is everything you could want and more. Wendy and Colin were on hand if we needed them and were very friendly and helpful. A welcome hamper was there for our arrival, which was really nice. I would definitely recommend this property and can't wait to stay in it again

Comfortable cottage in lovely rural location with village pub close by serving good pub food. Excellent welcome pack on arrival. Despite a week of very wet weather we had an enjoyable time exploring the area and visiting local towns and National Trust properties.
