There were some good points about The Old Forge. It was in beautiful countryside, extremely clean and the owner was helpful. But, he phoned me before I left to say that he was going on holiday and the key would be under the mat. I had nobody to ask any questions! Like, what do I do with a tray full of ash from the burner. I hunted the grounds, and could find nothing, and eventually bought (at £22) a metal container for the ash. The stove didn't burn well and I think it and the chimney needs a good clean to rid it of soot. There was a lot of traffic noise. Particularly heavy lorries. It wouldn't have been obvious in searches that this was the case. It's a B road. Actually not a lot of ordinary car traffic. My nephew, whose a Police Officer, told me that the lorries are all going and returning from animal feed plants further down the road. Lorries actually make the whole building vibrate - once at 3.00 am which woke me up. Lorries start very early using the road!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments which we take very seriously, whether they are positive or negative and we use each comment constructively. I take on board that you had issues with the wood burner (no-one has ever complained before and all love it when it is used), but like every item in the barn, the instructions for every appliance in the property including the wood burner, (even down to using the kettle) is in the blue folder which is always left for guests to look at and which is always placed on the dining room table so that it could not be missed. I have tested the wood burner since your comment and can confirm it is working fine and is as it should be. The flue is cleaned and swept on a regular basis. We are glad you enjoyed “the beautiful countryside”. The barn is central to Wales, Chester and other popular places to visit, and is the reason we have so many bookings and happy customers, many that repeat on a regular basis. With the Barn being at the rear of our own B&B, it is someway off the B road and makes it ideal for guests to walk to the local pub / restaurant and shop. I will of course reimburse the £22 for the metal containers you felt the need to buy; a cheque will follow in the post. Once again we thank you for your comments all of which have been noted.

The purpose of our visit was for a family event nearby so the location was very convenient for us but it was clear that it was well situated for exploring that area of Shropshire, and into North Wales. It was easy to get to Shrewsbury and Oswestry. The property was also conveniently located next to the Bradford Arms pub where we enjoyed a meal and drink with friendly service. The property has been well converted from a converted from a barn in a sympathetic manner and the accommodation is well set out. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom so it was ideal for us as two adult couples. The view from the property across farmland was pleasant and there was plenty of space outside to relax although we didn't take advantage of that in January! The owner was very friendly and welcoming and lives in the adjoining property which is a B&B. In summary, a pleasant place to stay.
