Description

This lovely barn conversion is ideal for touring Northumberland and Cumbria, and is within driving distance of Hadrians Wall.

The Old Dairy is a detached barn conversion which has been tastefully converted, and nestles on the border of Cumbria and Northumbria. It sits in a garden, bordered by mature trees with views over green fields and wild fells. Alston is said to be the highest market town in England, and has a quaint cobbled street with public houses, butchers, bakers and even its own candlemaker! It lies within an AONB with the Pennine Way running close to the cottage, and with spectacular scenery all around. Fishing, riding and golf are all nearby, and you can follow some of the local rambles or the Pennine Way. It is ideal for touring the northern Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and Northumbria and within easy driving distance are Hadrians Wall, Hexham, Newcastle, the Metro Centre, Beamish Museum, Ullswater and Keswick. Within the area is an historical Roman fort and tourists will enjoy the museums, exhibitions and sites along Hadrian’s Wall. Shops, pubs and restaurants 2 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with wooden floor. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Oil central heating (underfloor in bathroom), ele, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair on request. Freesat TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. The cottage is situated in the most beautiful area of the country with skies so dark at night that your breath is taken away by the stars in he sky. After a day out the cottage is the most welcoming place to return to, warm and comfortable with all you need for a restful holiday.

Very peaceful and tranquil cottage. All mod cons, owner was very friendly and very helpful. We really enjoyed the cottage and will definitely go again.

Brilliant much needed 3 day stay in the Lake District. Delia was excellent from the beginning even leaving us the key in the door from the previous day after she had cleaned it and giving us permission to stay until 1200 on the day we left even though we were supposed to be out by 1000. Will definitely be back

Enjoyed a wonderful 4 night stay in The Old Dairy. It's very tastefully decorated, well equipped and spotlessly clean, also cosy and relaxing. I would highly recommend a stay here, if you want total peace and tranquility. On a clear night, it's great for star gazing too. It's in the small hamlet of Leadgate, 1.5 miles from Alston, which has a variety of pubs, shops and cafes & a couple of supermarkets. We enjoyed some great walks during our stay. Ashgill force is a must visit and the the Roman fort Epiacum is interesting too but probably better in summer when the ground isn't so soggy!

A fantastic place to stay as long as you want to be in the outdoors! We loved going for walks locally, but the amenities are limited and I imagine if the weather was poor this could be an issue. The cottage itself is fantastic - well equipped and very comfortable.

The Old Dairy is a beautiful conversion of an old farm building; well-equipped, nicely furnished and decorated, warm and comfortable. If you enjoy walking in beautiful countryside this property is an ideal base, there are numerous marked footpaths all around.
