Description

The Old Dairy is situated within a 50 acre farm where there are plenty of beautiful views to enjoy including Lyme Bay!

These superb converted barns are set on a 50-acre farm in a lush, green valley, with stunning views out over Lyme Bay. An area of breathtaking beauty, walk to the top field and look out over Exmouth, Dawlish, Teignmouth and the tors of Dartmoor. Or wander along private lanes to public footpaths which lead to Smugglers Cove, Teignmouth and beyond. Within 2 miles you can play golf on an 18-hole course, swim in an open-air pool, enjoy sea fishing and relax on a sandy beach. There is riding and coarse fishing 5 miles away, and at Dawlish Warren, 5½ miles, there is a 500-acre natural bird sanctuary, where you can see thousands of birds on land and overhead; the farm itself is also home to many different species, including the nationally rare cirl bunting. Within a 10-mile radius there are two racecourses, picturesque villages and fishing harbours, sandy coves and the high moorlands of Dartmoor. The Roman city of Exeter is approximately 15 miles, whilst bustling Torbay (9 miles), which encompasses Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, has theatres, a yachting marina and a selection of fine gardens to visit; in addition to Kent’s Cavern, where the remains of some of Britain’s very earliest inhabitants (dating back approximately 25,000 years) were found. Here you’ll find castles, abbeys, wildlife parks, steam trains and model railways all within easy reach, with many open throughout the year. Newton Abbot’s attractions include Bradley Manor, a 15th-century manor house set in 70-acre woodlands and meadows, the Gorse Blossom Miniature Railway and Woodland Park, and a Hedgehog Hospital at Prickley Ball Farm. Shop ½ mile, pub ¾ mile.

My friend and I had a lovely week at The Old Dairy. The setting of the cottage was beautiful and it was great each morning to wake up to the wonderful view of the sweeping countryside and the sea beyond. The layout of the cottage was quirky in that we had to go downstairs to bed. I had the double en suite bedroom which I really liked. It was spacious and the bed so comfortable. My friend however had the twin room with a bathroom adjacent. His complaint was that the bathroom didn't have a shower, just a bath so that it meant he had to use the shower in my bedroom. Whilst this didn't cause too many problems, it would have been preferable for him to be able to have a shower in the privacy of his own bathroom each day instead of having to wait for me to vacate mine. As National Trust members the property was ideally placed for us to visit as many as 11 different properties and to visit nearby resorts. The road or pathway down to the cottage was 'dicey' and full of potholes. My friend's small Peugeot took a battering. The car park was tiny but adequate although my friend experienced some difficulty trying to turn the car around in the small steep space. There is good wifi at the cottage and a good mobile phone signal if you are on the 02 network. Having said all this the cottage was wonderfully cosy and I would definitely stay there again.
